The 'eyes' have it......

7:22 am - Tuesday - August 22nd - LPG&RVR - 51° F, humidity 83%, wind 3 mph out of the south.....heavy cloud cover remains after the day long rain on Monday, and the forecast high for today is 75° F.  On this date in 2017, which was also a Tuesday, TLE and I were getting ready to 'clock in' at the General Store in Mammoth Hot Springs (Yellowstone NP).....↴

The rain began about 1 am Monday morning, and as forecast, continued throughout the day ending around 5 pm, as forecast.  It is rare that reality almost perfectly reflects the forecast, but that was the case Monday.  The temp only got to 65° F, and surprise, surprise....we had our heaters on most of the day....seems kind of weird to write that on August 22nd.  I've said it before, and I'll say it once again......I love hearing the pitter patter of rain on our riveted aircraft aluminum roof at night.  There was no wind, just the slow, steady rhythm of rain on the roof.  Contrary to what one might think in light of the Hurricane/Tropical storm which slammed SoCal over the past few days, our storm was completely unrelated to that storm, and originated out the Pacific Northwest, which explains the lack of wind of any kind.

As we often do, we enjoyed our morning coffee for about an hour just sitting, and talking.  It is a nice way to begin our four day weekend.  Phyllis came over around 10 am to help TLE make her world famous lasagna, at which time I went out to the trailer to put some of the tools away I've been using over the past week, and just generally putter around for about an hour.

I had an appointment scheduled at Alturas Eye Center for 1:15 pm to get my annual checkup, so, with the rain, we pretty much stayed inside until sometime after 12 pm when we began to get ready to drive into town.  Our plans were to ride into town with Charles and Phyllis in their pickup, be dropped at the Eye Center for my appointment while they and Elaine went shopping at Holiday Market, and then after my appointment visit the local Modoc Railway Museum in town, which we have never done.  Unfortunately, I did not count of Dr. Dearing dilating my pupils.  The dilation lasts 4-5 hours, and with fully dilated pupils there is way too much light entering the eye making it difficult to focus, or see much, so we drove home instead.  The appointment lasted about 45 minutes, but in the end Dr. Dearing pronounced my eyes to be healthy, and my artificial lenses to continue to be centered properly, and doing their job, which is really what one wants to hear, right?

We were home just before 3 pm, where I spent the next 2.5 hours with my eyes closed waiting for the the dilation drops to lose their effect.  We walked over to Charles and Phyllis' 5th wheel just before 6 pm for that lasagna dinner prepared earlier in the day by Elaine and Phyllis.  We watched a Netflix movie entitled 'POMS' starring Diane Keaton, which was actually a really nice feel good movie.

As I sit here typing everything is still quite damp outside, the cloud cover is heavy, and my eyes are back to normal.  The park is eerily quiet, and there is hardly a breath of wind.  Life is good, and we are thoroughly enjoying our time with Charles and Phyllis.  By the way, they got Starlink a few months ago, and have had zero problems with it, and they have been moving quite a bit over the course of the summer which involves setting it up, and taking it down a few dozen times all over the western half of the USA.  Ours, too, continues to work flawlessly, without interruption.  Many of the permanent residents here have also acquired Starlink over the past 12 months, and Starlink internet is now an option at the Clubhouse for our guests.  It has, and continues to be a real game changer for us connectivity wise.

Thanks for stopping by!
