6:25 am - Friday - August 18th - LPG&RVR - 56° F, humidity 77%, wind 4 mph out of the southeast.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 88° F. On this date in 2012 TLE and I were visiting Multnomah Falls on the Columbia River in Oregon (east of Portland).....one of our bucket list places to see.......↴
I really had no excuse not to write my blog post about Wednesday Thursday morning. While TLE had to work, I did not, but somehow I forgot, and did not remember until I woke up around 2 am last night....lol. I do have to work today (Friday) so, to save time, I will write about Wednesday and Thursday in this missive.
Wednesday was TLE's follow up to her cataract surgery over a week ago, so we decided to combine that with doing our weekly shopping and a visit to Rubio's Taqueria into the same visit to Alturas. The forecast high for Wednesday was 92° F, but heavy cloud cover all morning nipped that forecast in the bud with the high getting to just 89° F. Wednesday was to have been the last day in the 90's for the foreseeable future. At any rate we arrived in Alturas around 12 pm making our first stop the local Indian casino fuel station to refill our two 5 gallon gas cans, which we use to fuel our Honda 2000 generator when needed, like in a power outage. We've been meaning to fill those two containers for weeks now, but always forgot. Gas prices have fallen quite a bit locally. The price of diesel was $5.87/gallon just a couple of weeks ago, but is now down to $5.09. Regular Unleaded was just $4.67/gallon on Wednesday, so it cost us close to $50 for 10 gallons.
Next up was a stop at Rubio's for the street tacos, and a burrito for TLE. Normally we would drive back through town to the town park to eat our lunch, but it was still heavily overcast, and only 83° F, so we drove across the street to use the picnic tables near the local drive through coffee place. We've never used them before as it has always been too sunny, and there are no umbrellas, but on this day it was cool with no sun. It actually began to sprinkle (rain) just as we were finishing.....good timing.
It was just before 1 pm when we finished eating, and with TLE"s appointment at 1:20 pm, we still had time to stop at Grocery Outlet for the things we buy there before the appointed time. We were in and out in about 10 minutes, and walking into the Optometrist office by 1:15 pm. TLE's appointment lasted about 35 minutes. Her doctor found good progress in the healing of her right eye from the surgery, but wants to wait another couple of weeks before scheduling the left eye surgery. She'll return on September 6th for her presurgical appointment, and then we will get the date for the second surgery, which will probably be in mid September now.
After a quick stop at Holiday Market we were on our way home a little after 2 pm, arriving just before 2:30 pm to find that TLE's sister, Phyllis, and Charles had arrived for their scheduled 10 day stay.....
Charles and Phyllis' Landmark 365 5th wheel is in the house
.....after putting away the groceries we headed over to their 5th wheel for happy hour, and a chicken curry dinner courtesy of Phyllis. We talked, laughed, drank some wine, and had dinner before heading home for the night.....just in time to catch a nice sunset......
.....and that was our Wednesday.
I haven't played golf for a while primarily due to the heat, but I wanted to play at least 9 holes with Charles on Thursday. I drove TLE to work around 7:40 am, and then spent time around the coach puttering around before Charles and I headed over to the driving range around 10 am to hit a few balls before beginning our round at 10:30 am. Neither of us has played golf for a few weeks, so we pretty much stank up the course for 9 holes before calling it a day. For me there were enough good shots mixed in with the bad to encourage me, but I really just need to play more often.
After our round Charles and Phyllis drove into Alturas to do some shopping of their own, and Charles needed to buy something at the local Napa Auto Parts store. I took a long nap, and watched quite a bit of the 2nd leg of the FedEx Championship golf tournament before driving over to the Clubhouse to pick up TLE after work.
We had plans to do some wine and cheese tasting on the 'lower deck' but the forecast rain finally arrived quashing those plans, so we headed back to Charles and Phyllis' 5th wheel around 5:45 pm.....
.....we tasted 5 wines from Lavigne Winery (Paso Robles, CA) paired with 5 cheeses. As always, we had a great time, and learned some more about wine.....Charles is quite knowledgeable about wine, and has quite a 'wine cellar' back in Phoenix, as well as a pretty good collection he brings on the road when they travel each summer......
.....since we both had to work Friday we were home by 8:30 pm with smiles upon our faces. We had another great evening visiting, and look forward to many more over the next week plus.
Thanks for stopping by!
