815......

6:51 am - Thursday - April 11th - LGP&RVR - 35° F, humidity 70%, wind 3 mph out of the south by southeast....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 72° F.  On this date in 2015 TLE and I were chilling in Goosenecks State Park......

It's Wednesday, so it is time to drive the final 206 miles to LPG&RVR for our third summer.  It was pretty cold overnight, but by 9 am it was warm enough to haul the anchor, and begin our trek north.  Our first stop of the day was only 5 miles away, the local Maverick fuel station, where we took on 117 gallons of #2 diesel at a cost of $442.  We won't have to 'pay the rent' for another six months, or more.  By the time we rolled out of the Maverick it was around 10:15 am, and we had about 4 hours of driving left in the day.  TLE took a bunch of pictures of our journey northward which took us along the shores of Washoe Lake, Silver Lake, White Lake, and Honey Lake....

Washoe Lake (right up to the road in places it is so full)

Dropping into Reno, NV

Silver Lake

White Lake.....almost to the California border

Honey Lake (also, right up to the road in places)

....I specifically mention these lakes, as they, until the winter of 2022-23 were mostly dry lake beds (Washoe being the exception, but it was pretty low back in 2022), but now they are all full again.  Around 12:00 pm we stopped at the Honey Lake Rest Area for about 30 minutes, before beginning the final 72 miles of our journey back to LPG&RVR*....

The Standish cutoff....saves about 30 minutes of driving

.....soon we were cruising through the Madeline Plains, and US-395 begins to straighten out for long distances.....

....we had the highway all to ourselves for much of the last 60 miles.  Soon we could see the top of Eagle Mountain, and she has a lot of snow on her this year....

Eagle Mountain in the distance

.....by 1:45 pm we were cresting the last summit (Sage Hen) before the Pitt River Valley, and LPG&RVR.....

There is Likely, CA in the distance....only a few miles remain

....as we turned onto Jess Valley Road you could see Eagle Mountain in all her glory....I wonder who will win the annual pool with the correct date that the final snow disappears from her peak?

We pulled into LPG&RVR to find Dennis Tate, the owner, there to great us as he has every year.  It is good to be home!  As I write, the park is completely empty.  We are the first seasonal employees to arrive.  We pulled into site 25, just above our summer site, #55....

There she is....site #55

....a few days ago Jose (course superintendent) dopped a bucket of gravel on our site, so we can level out the rear of the site before we move into it later Thursday.  He was kind enough to spread out the pile, so there be minimal raking required on our part to finish the job.

Of course, I couldn't let too much time pass before I loaded my golf clubs onto Club Car #18 (#20 is having minor repairs made to it) and hauled them over to the Club House to put into my locker.  Before heading back to the coach I putted for a few minutes, and actually sank 3 or 4 putts from distance....I'm off to a good start!

In all we covered 815 miles since last Saturday in, essentially, four driving days.  The Newell performed well, to nobody's surprise.  She now has around 184,000 miles on her odometer, with many miles left to travel our remaining years of being Vagabonders Supreme!

Thanks for stopping by!
