May/June gloom continues.....

6:50 am - Wednesday - June 26th - Ramona, CA - 59° F, 87% humidity, wind - CALM.....marine layer this morning with a forecast high of 77° F.....the view this morning.....↴

Normally on an off day I would stay in bed until after 7 am, but since our power was to be shutoff beginning at 7 am I was up at 6:30 am to retrieve our Honda 2000 from our trailer in the storage yard in order to power the Newell during the power outage.  After all, there were soccer matches to be watched!

Before we assumed our sedentary positions for the morning we took a walk around RORVR once again.  This time I suggested we do two laps, and TLE agreed.....  

.....we paused behind the Red Barn to enjoy the view down the Ramona Valley....a little hard to see as the marine layer was still present......

.....in just over 53 minutes we covered some 2.65 miles, had total elevation gain of 385', and burned 476 caloric unites.  That is the furthest I have walked in about 3 months, and it felt good to head out setting a good pace for a change.....

.....we were back home by 9:30 am setting up the outdoor TV, and within minutes were watching the first FIFA Women's World Cup match of the day....Italy vs. China.  Italy was, by and far, the best team on the pitch this day, and won easily over China 2 to nil....China just could not muster any offense.  Although I had set up the outdoor TV, we ended up watching the match inside as the marine layer was still present, and made it too chilly to sit outside.  We did, however, sit outside for the second match featuring The Netherlands vs. Japan.  This was a very good match, and going into the 88th minute was still tied 1-1 when The Netherlands was awarded a legitimate penalty kick, which they converted, ultimately winning the match a few minutes later 2-1.

By this time it was 2 pm, and we had not eaten lunch, so being Tuesday we drove into town for 'Taco Tuesday' at Rubio's Coastal Grill followed by a brief shopping foray at Stater Brothers.  By the time we returned home at 4 pm the power had been restored to our section of RORVR, and it was time to power down the Honda 2000....she ran for 9 hours straight, and did a great job!

Normally, at this time of day on an off day, we would spend another couple of hours out on the 'lido deck' reading, and listening to music, but the marine layer had returned, and it was getting too cold to be outside again. I know in a few weeks we will look back at this time of almost daily marine layers with fondness as the summer temps continue to rise into the high 80's, and low 90's, but right now we wished we could have sat outside for another couple of hours enjoying the evening air.....'You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need.....'......

This and that.....

6:40 am - Wednesday - June 19th - Ramona, CA - 54° F, 97% humidity, wind 3 mph out of the west by northwest......sunny this morning with a forecast high of 79° F.....the view this morning......↴

On our non-work days we try to do something physical each day, and Tuesday we decided to take a walk together around the park.  TLE has this route she walks, when I am riding my bike, which covers about 1.25 miles, so that is what we walked......

.....I burned almost as many calories walking 1.25 miles as I did riding my bike for 3.6 miles on Monday, and in less time.....next time we'll do two loops!

We try to get out of the park at least one time per week, and Tuesday was that day this time around.  I spent about 30 minutes Tuesday before we went into town going through my two closets and my Rubbermaid storage bin pulling out items of clothing I had not been wearing.....mostly t-shirts, but there were also a couple of plaid shirts which did not make the cut.  By the time I was done I had a plastic trash bag full of clothing items to be donated back to the Goodwill.

We left RORVR around 11 am to make the 5 mile drive into Ramona where we had a number of errands to accomplish....

• visit several local stores looking looking for a few items.....Damprid, new sunscreens for our Newell windshield, butane to recharge our two lighters, and guy line adjusters.
• drop off my plastic bag of clothes at Goodwill
• have lunch at Rubio's......it's Taco Tuesday after all
• buy some groceries at Stater Brothers
• do some 'junking'

...we struck out on the Damprid, sunscreens, and guy line adjusters.....by the way, guy line adjusters look like this.....

.....we ultimately ordered those items from Amazon, and they will be delivered Wednesday.....there is it again....one day delivery for free!

We made it to Rubio's about 12:30 pm and split two original fish tacos.....

.....from there we walked over to Stater Brothers and did our shopping.  I had not given up on the butane to recharge our Olympian lighters, and stopped at a 'smoke shop' on our way home to see if they had what we needed, and they did.  It used to be you could get the aerosol butane almost anywhere.  I guess most people just buy the disposable lighters now, but we really like the Olympians.....

....we were back home by 2:30 pm, and setting up the outdoor TV to watch another women's FIFA World Cup match between Italy and Brazil, which was won by Brazil 1-0 on a very questionable penalty kick.  For the most part the officiating at this World Cup has been pretty good, but there have been a couple of matches where it was really subpar from beginning to end.  While the officiating in this match appeared to be pretty good, we were disappointed in the awarding of the penalty kick late in game.

Jello and brake lights do not mix well........

7:48 am - Wednesday - March 27th - Fontana, CA - 51° F, 78% humidity, wind 1 mph out of the north.....overcast today with a forecast high of 71° F.

Tuesday began slowly, and ended with a whimper.  We drove over to my son's office to pick up the two package which have arrived.....the new SeaFlo house water pump, and the remanufactured (new to us) TRICO pneumatic wiper motor....bet you know what I'll be doing Wednesay, huh?

On the way to the office a gentleman pulled up beside us and motioned for TLE to 'roll' down her window (they're electric, right?).  He quickly advised her our  two lower brake lights were not working, but the center one above the hatchback window was working.....so we did have a brake light.  Wow, I just replaced the left brake light bulb in September while we were still in Southwest Harbor.  How could both bulbs go out at the same time?

When we arrived at my son's I had TLE go to the back of the car to verify what the man hold told us, and she confirmed he was telling the truth......no brake lights.  She also advised that it appeared there was water inside each of the lenses.  When I went to examine them I found each had several cracks in the lens, which must have allowed water to ingress causing the bulbs to fail, so it appeared a visit to the local Autozone was in order.

After we picked up the packages and mail we headed over to Rubio's Coastal Grill on Foothill for some of their 'original' fish tacos.  We love Rubio's, and had not yet stopped by for lunch since we arrived in SoCal two weeks ago......↴

.....they have a great alfresco dining area, of which we always avail ourselves.    We lingered over our fish tacos for the better part of an hour before heading to the local Autozone to buy new brake/tail lights (these bulbs are dual filament).  Once that was accomplished we headed further east on Foothill Blvd. to the local Walmart to pickup a few things, and then headed for home.

I spent the rest of the afternoon pulling both taillight assemblies out of the rear of the VW, then draining the water out of them, and letting them sit in the sun drying out for a couple of hours.  It turned out only one bulb was bad, so now I have two extra bulbs (one from Southwest Harbor) for the future.  I used super glue to weld the cracks in the plastic lenses, but as a precaution I have ordered two used replacement lenses off eBay at $50 each....new ones cost $149.....EACH.  By the time I put everything back together and we verified all was working it was after 4 pm and time for a nap.

It was nice to take off a day from major painting projects, but it will be time get back to work on Wednesday installing the 'new' TRICO pneumatic wiper motor, and the new SeaFlo house water pump.... ↴
