Our "plan" was to turn over the DD (Detroit Diesel) and depart Rock Creek RV Park at, or before 7am.....we've had good intentions on many occasions, but have never gotten out that early from anywhere, but today we actually started the wheels rolling at 6:50am. We didn't load the T'Bird until we got to the top of the 11% grade road that takes you out of the park, and I'm glad I did. It's not long, but it is steep. At the top we quickly loaded the car and then headed for the city run RV dump station about a mile away.
We actually did pretty good on the tanks....we were at Rock Creek for 8 days and the black tank was only 50% full, and the gray a little more. There are no sewer connections, or dump stations within the park. After finishing that fun job we headed north on Blue Lake Blvd. to the Fred Meyer Supermarket's fuel station. We had done enough shopping there to qualify for 10 cents off the first 70 gallons, and 3 cents off the last 70. I was expecting to put in over 150 gallons, but the pump clicked off at 140.1.....only cost a little over $600 to fill her up. Once my fuel gauge gets below 1/3 it is not very accurate.....the gauge read a little under 1/8 which would mean 22.5 gallons, or less, but we actually had 40 gallons left in in this case.
By this time it was around 8:40am, and still under 60 degrees as we eased into the I-84 eastbound lanes. I was able to put the DD on cruise control and just steer 90% of the day, even though we quickly began gaining altitude, but the rate of elevation gain was just perfect for the cruise control. Our first summit was Sweetzer Pass at 5, 320', but that would not be the high of the day. Twice we went over 7,000'....that is as high an elevation as we have been at for months.
The first rest stop was about 65 miles east, and we stopped there to have breakfast, and to give me time to check the torque on the right rear trailer lug nuts. All 6 nuts checked out, so I am feeling a lot better about that. I will check them again tomorrow on our drive over to Flaming Gorge National Park.
Our second rest stop was just north of Ogden, another 130 miles east of the first, and again the lug nuts checked out.
There are a number of fires burning in Idaho right now, and sky coming across I-84 was very hazy, however, as soon as we crossed the Utah state line the skies cleared, and rest of the way to Evanston, WY they were deep blue.
About 30 miles past Odgen, UT we picked up I-80 and began a 30 mile climb to Evanston, WY, our destination for the day, and our 3rd state of the day. I was not looking forward to this climb, but I was able to hold 5th gear 98% of the 30 mile climb, which is unusual, especially pulling the trailer, but the grade must have been just right. Really helps with the mpg when you can stay in 5th gear.
Our spot tonight
We arrived in Evanston around 1:45pm where the elevation is 6,800', and the temperatures are in the high 70's. There is one RV park in Evanston called Phillips RV Park. I wasn't sure if we would fit, or if the trees would block our satellite signal, but on both counts we were fine. It is a nice park, not far off the Interstate, but the only game in town. This park has been in the Phillips family since 1936, and it shows loving care.
Tomorrow we are off to Flaming Gorge. I'm not sure how good the cell service is going to be out there, or if we will have WiFi, so it is possible you may not hear from me for a few days.
Thanks for stopping by!
