SHOSHONE FALLS A MILE EAST OF DOWNTOWN TWIN FALLS, IDAHO
Our last full day in Twin Falls, ID arrived very, very cold....I had to turn on the heater first thing this morning. The sky was crystal clear dark blue, and there was a gentle cool breeze from the west most of the morning. We decided to take our long walk along the canyon rim today, so after a couple of cups of coffee we jumped in the 'Bird and headed over to Canyon Crest Restaurant to park and pick up the walking pass going east along the rim of the Snake River Canyon. According to TLE's Garmin we walked 2.5 miles east to where the trail ended at Pole Line Road. Along the way we passed the beautiful steel bridge (HWY 93) that spans the canyon, and the visitor center where Base Jumpers were preparing their shutes for jumps later that morning. As we ended our eastward trek at Pole Line Road we could see the Twin Falls Mormon Temple in the distance.
On our way back we stopped at the HWY 93 bridge and if I had been quicker on the draw I would have snapped a picture of a Base Jumper about half way down to the bottom of the canyon, but I am no Wyatt Earp, and missed it.
In this picture below you will see a sort of "mound" at the top just a little left of center. This was the take off ramp used by Evil Kenievel in his famous 70's attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon on a sort of jet powered motorcycle.....he fell a few feet short, was injured, but not severely.
The next picture is a file picture of the parachute opened, and the rocket heading for the bottom of the canyon.....he almost made it.
Looking west
Another water fall along the rim walking path
Dierkes Lake....just above Shoshone Falls
The pictures I took of Shoshone Falls do not really do what we saw justice, so I snapped this 60 second video to give you a better idea of what we saw, and the sounds we heard.
We stopped at the Starbucks on the way back and I had the usual plus a bagel with cream cheese....yum! After arriving home I pulled out the outdoor TV again and watched the FedEx Cup golf tournament for a couple of hours, and then began the process of putting all the stuff away again so we can roll the T'Bird into the trailer tomorrow morning before we run over the the City RV dump station just a few blocks away, and then up to the Fred Meyers to "pay the rent"....yup, it's time to feed the beast....we will probably pump around 150 gallons tomorrow morning at $4.15/gallon.....that's a lot of diesel and a lot of rent! Then we'll jump on I-84 eastbound to I-80, and then on east to Evanston, WY where we will overnight before heading on to Flaming Gorge National Park for about 8 days.
In just a few minutes we will run over to Mi Pueblo for some authentic Mexican fare, and then hit the sack early as we will be pulling out just before the sun rises tomorrow to beat the heat....we'll be climbing up to over 6,000' elevation tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!
