50,000!!!

The rain from Friday continued into the early morning hours of Saturday, but by 9 am it was starting to clear so we decided to get out the Cannondales and ride a little over 5 miles into Marathon to have breakfast at a local eatery.  The first 3/4 mile we rode a wide shoulder, and then picked up the bike path the rest of the way into town.  The bike path is completely separate from the road, which makes it more pleasant as well as safer riding.

This little quay where we stopped to snap this picture is just a couple hundred yards from The Island Fish Company.  We had passed this interesting restaurant a couple of times on our drives into Marathon, and noticed they did serve breakfast, so it was in the back of our minds to take this ride.

We arrived a little after 10 am, and were quickly seated with a water view.  The forecast for Saturday was "WINDS" the rest of the day Saturday, and then all day Sunday......and as we sat down it was apparent the winds were picking up.

We sat kind of giggling like teenagers, just enjoying the moment, and each others company, and silly comments about this and that.

It has been a while since we have just been completely by ourselves.  Don't get me wrong we love being with friends, and family, and have enjoyed every moment over the past few months with them........but, we also like just being with each other a lot, too........which is really a good thing since we are basically with each other (with, or without friends and family) 24/7.  I can't even begin to imagine this journey we are on without Elaine at my side.

In the over all scheme of the blogosphere (according to Merriam Webster this is a real word)  world, the fact that our tiny blog hit a milestone of 50,000 page views sometime early this morning is not a big deal, but in our own little "Whatsnewell" world it is a big deal.  So, I'll take this brief moment in time to curtsy, and then get on with it.

Breakfast was delightful......I am a sucker for Huevos Rancheros, and when TLE pointed out to me that there was one on the menu I had to order it.  On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best one I have ever had (Don Ricardo's in Arcadia, CA back in the early 80's) this one comes in at a 7.5.

By the time we finished our 11 mile round trip bike ride the wind was gusting at 15-20 mph so we quickly lowered the main patio awning....the forecast was for 25-30 mph gusting through Sunday evening, so no point in taking a chance.......right on schedule the winds began to increase in intensity making our decision look even better.

I had a couple of heavy duty extension cords that needed some attention.  I noticed when we were plugged in at Phil and Patty's that my 30 amp extension cord had a  reverse polarization issue.  Hadn't used it for a while, so when I worked on it the last time I must have crossed some wires.  My 50 amp extension cord....a very heavy duty one I purchased way back in 2009.....had the thick outer sheathing pulling out from the female plug....this too I had noticed at Phil and Patty's.....hadn't used this one for a long time either.

When I opened up the 30 amp male end I saw immediately what I had done in my haste a number of months ago....I had reversed the white and black wires, so I just undid them and reconnected the wires to their proper terminals.

The 50 amp cord was a different problem, and took much longer.  I need to shorten all 4 wires so I could snug up the black sheathing into the female receptacle.  The stranded wires in this cord are each as thick as a small 15 amp extension cord, and very hard to work with in small spaces.  Time is not a big issue, so I just took my time, enjoying the process, and got it right the first time.

When that repair task was done I took apart the Sea-B-Que to clean it out.....it had 5 years of BBQ debris to clean out, and a cool windy day is the perfect day for such tasks.  Now it is good for another 5 years.

I closed up the trailer and went back inside to watch some PGA golf, and some college basketball.  We're just a few weeks from "March Madness", and it's time I got more familiar with the top teams......our friends, Brian and Maria are graduates of Kansas, so I also wanted to be sure and catch their game against Texas (UT) at 9 pm to see if they have shaken off their mid season slump.

While I was watching the Arkansas v. Missouri (Arkansas won by 2.....this will make my friends in Lincoln happy!) I noticed the sun was setting, and that there might be a good sunset to photograph for a change....the heavy cloud cover has really obscured the first couple we have had here.....so I walked quickly over to the waterfront and got this one.

The strong winds continued into the evening, and all night long.  TLE made stir fry for dinner....very, very yummy!  I ended the evening watching the KU (Kansas) v. Texas....it was a rout......73-47....yep, KU has got their act together again.

We never got out to see a movie......we just enjoyed staying in for a change....a very nice Saturday.  Sunday we are off to Key West for the day!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Enjoy your visit to Key West. We love the Keys and go often. Have you been to the Sunset Grill Yet? It's on Marathon and is the best place to watch the sunset.

Here is a link to a blog posting that I did on the Sunset Grill. Notice how the pool changes colors.
