If I were anymore mellow......

7:20 am - Sunday - February 16th - Borrego Springs, CA - 47° F, 56% humidity, wind 7 mph out of the north by northwest.....clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 77° F.....splendiferous!

As of Saturday we have been gone from RORVR for three weeks, and here in the Anza Borrego desert 11 days....it feels (in a good way) like we have been here a month.  My mind is uncluttered, serene, and just soaking in the quiet, the big views, the feel of gentle balmy breezes coming through the windows.  I have slipped into 'boondock mode' once again as one day blends into another.....I wonder at times if it is Saturday, Sunday, or perhaps Monday.....they all feel the same.  It is a good frame of mind in which to find yourself....just being.  Each morning just before sunrise the interior of the Newell slowly turns from pitch darkness to a slight glow penetrating the curtains, and finally the moment when the sun hits the passenger side bedroom window creating a sudden burst of golden light.  It is the way one should awake each day....no alarms, no being startled out of a dead sleep combined with the feel of adrenaline coursing through your veins.  No....just slowly sliding into a conscious state.  You begin to think about the day ahead, and any Jello plans you may have in the offing.  Maybe there is a project you wish to start, or complete, or maybe not.....maybe you will just close your eyes for a few more minutes, and then maybe you'll get up then....maybe.

You're still lying there thinking about getting up when your soulmate reaches out and touches your shoulder, puts her hands through your hair, and softly says "Good morning my love..."....yeah....it doesn't really get better than that .  Then, as I do most mornings here in the Anza Borrego, I open the curtains, and raise the mini blinds to see that big view one more time.  From there I begin turning on each of our three Suburban gas furnaces to take the chill out of the air, opening curtains, and mini blinds as I move to the front of the coach, finishing with lighting the burner under the coffee pot.  Within a few minutes TLE joins me in the salon for a 'good morning, I love you' hug, and the day has begun.  In about 10 minutes the Corningware coffee pot on the stove begins to perk, and you look at the clock to see the time, because you know in just 8 minutes from that point you will take your first sip of coffee for the day.  I sit down for my daily blood pressure reading......ahhhh...122 over 78....pulse rate reads 66.  You remember you have a hiking date with your boondock neighbors Fred and Sandra around 9:45.....it's only 7:15 am, so you have plenty of time to slip into your day.

As we exit the Newell we see Fred and Sandra (from Alberta, Canada) walking over to begin the hike to the snake sculpture.....you've already been there once, but want to go again anyway....

.....on your way across the plain which separates us from the hills to our west we spy a flowering plant.  We don't know what it is, but we enjoy its fragile beauty for a minute before continuing on our way....

.....as Fred said, and I have also said before, sometimes you just connect with someone immediately, and that is our story.  We have shared a couple of sunset fires with them, and now a hike.....I really just took the one selfie while we were at the snake sculpture, because we were talking non-stop the entire time.  When we returned home after about 2 hours it seemed like we had just left on the hike....time just melted away as we lost ourselves in conversation.....

....we hiked just under 3 miles in one hour and 18+ minutes of moving time.  We just kind of ambled along at a modest 2.3 mph.  As we bid adieu for the day to our friends I could not help but be grateful for their acquaintance.   They are so easy to be with, and to know.  Meeting them here in the Anza Borrego is one of the highlights of our stay here.  As I often remark to others when they ask what our favorite place is after 8 years of travel, it is more about the people you meet along the way, than the place.

TLE spent a big portion of the afternoon on the 'lido deck' reading, whilst I toiled away in the trailer making some requested changes to her eBike (new handlebar grips, new handlebars, and a new stem).  By the time I finished it was after 3 pm, so I joined TLE on the 'lido deck' for the rest of the afternoon reading, and dozing.....

.....there, of course, was another sunset fire......

.....and a very subtle sunset.....life is good....."if I were any more mellow I would begin to rot" as Woody Allen said in 'Annie Hall'......and I'm out!
