Bridging the gap......

7:42 am - Tuesday - September 15th - Chinook, WA - 61° F, 97% humidity, wind - CALM....heavy overcast with fog here at 'RV Park at the Bridge'.  The forecast for today is rain later this afternoon....it rained most of the night....and a high of 64° F.  We roll our wheels in two hours for Oregon.  On this day in 2014 I was riding my mountain bike around the numerous Cape Blanco single track trails.......↴

In the 8 days days since we left the shores of Harrington Lagoon we covered less than 140 miles.  Monday we drove 180 miles in one day.  We had planned to leave the Elks Lodge in Forks, WA Monday around 9 am, but we on our way a tad after 8:30 am.  Initially the road was continually winding through the forest, and narrow......

....eventually we came to the Pacific Ocean, which has been our goal for months now......

.....then we came to one construction zone after another......many bridges being replaced.....

......then there were the very narrow bridges, and rapidly moving logging trucks going the opposite direction.  They do not slow down on these narrow bridges, and it is inevitable that you will meet one right in the middle of one of these.......

.....at last we reached Raymond, WA where we took a 30 minute break, which included topping off our 60 gallon propane tank for our winter stay on the Oregon Coast.  From there it was a little less than 50 miles to our destination for the day......RV Park at the Bridge....aptly named as it is just 1/4 mile from the Astoria-Megler Bridge which connects Washington with Oregon over the Columbia River......

....we arrived around 1:35 pm to this, as TLE says, 'cheek by jowl' park.....all back in sites, which meant we had to drop our trailer......

.....the trailer is about 100 yards from the coach, which is fine for overnight....

.....when we arrived the wind was blowing out of the west, which is what had been forecast.  That onshore wind will blow the smoke from the forest fires back to the interior of the state.  In spite of the tight confines of the park we were able to easily drop the trailer, and then back into our site for the night.  On Tuesday we will traverse the 4+ mile long Astoria-Megler Bridge into Oregon.....our 9th state of 2020......

You can see the bridge disappearing into the fog.....

.....thanks for stopping by!
