Three in a row......

 7:52 am - Wednesday - December 2nd - Seal Rock, OR - 46° F, 50% humidity, wind 14 mph out of the east......clear, blue, coolish skies today with a forecast high of 54° F.  On this date in 2017 at the Grand Canyon (Desert View)....I was waiting for TLE to come home from work at the General Store......↴


On a clear day the morning sun first hits the waves and rock formations this time of year around 8:30 am.....it is one of my favorite times of day here at Seal Rock, OR.  While the sky begins to lighten around 7:20 am it takes almost an hour for the sun to hit the beach at Seal Rock.....

Once again, with no rain, I was able to work my normal two hour shift.  This is the first time in a few weeks I have worked 3 days in a row.  Terry and I spent almost all of my shift planting escallonias, which form a hedge as they mature.  There are gaps in the hedges which separate our sites here at SRRVC that need to be filled.  In some places, such as the space between our site (A-3) and the site to the drivers side (A-2) there is no hedge, so we planted seven of these bushes along the property line.  It will take years for them to mature, and fill in, but you've got to start somewhere........


......after work I spent part of the afternoon modifying a riser for my receiver hitch on the VW so when I attach the bike rack it will be higher off the ground.  When we go in and out of driveways, or even the trailer, the rack sometimes drags on the pavement. I used my new angle grinder to effect the changes needed for the riser to fit properly.....

.....I think this will work as we are only talking a couple hundred pounds (bike rack, and bikes), and the riser is rated at 4,000 pounds intact.  I had to cut off the rear portion of the receiver for it to fit the rear bumper area.  I really did not want to cut into the plastic skin of the bumper, so this was a much better alternative. Anyway, we will experiment and see if it works!

Of course, with a clear, blue sky day such as we had there are campfire, and sunset possiblities, so around 4 pm I lit the fire, and we settled in to see what sort of sunset we would receive......


....within 40 minute we got our answer on the sunset........




....and we got another spell binding one......after I took a few pictures to memorialize the event it was back to TLE, and the fire.....



......by 5:15 our fire had burned down, and it was time to return to the warm confines of our Newell Classic for the evening.

  1. how does shortening the top help you on the riser unless you also make another hole in the bottom part to move it closer to you bumper...and therefore shorter to avoid hitting bottom.

    1. Had to shorten the top to get the bottom shaft far enough into the receiver so I could insert the pin that keeps it in place. With the 4" rise the bike rack is now far enough off the ground, and will not scrape on the ground any longer. When I put the bike rack back on the car you will see what I mean.

  2. ok now I think I understand. You could not use the riser until you shortened it. I thought you had been using it but were now changing it for more clearance.
