Anticipation......

 8:00 am - Thursday - January 21st - Seal Rock, OR - 43° F, 87% humidity, wind - zero mph out of the north......cloudy today with a forecast high of 51° F.  On this date in 2019 we experienced an amazing sunset in Amarillo, TX......↴

Wednesday was another rare sunny day, and it hasn't rained for 4 days now.  I could get used to that, I think.  Blake and I covered the burn pile again in anticipation of rain beginning Thursday......

....then we exchanged the two picnic tables we had painted for the two in sites 20 and 21 which we'll paint next, took care of a couple other small chores and were done with our workday by 11:30 am.  I spent about 30 minutes talking with Blake, then met TLE on her way home just after 12 pm.  Another exhausting workday at SRRVC.....lol.

We do a lot of things here at SRRVC in anticipation of rain, and one other thing which I have learned needs to be done in anticipation of rain is to dump our black tank.  The last two times I needed to dump I waited too long and ended up doing it in the rain.....not fun at all.  Accordingly, I exited the Newell around 3 pm to take care of the task, and had everything buttoned up within 20 minutes.  I could have gone a few more days, but it will be raining then.....sigh.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, January 20th was my last day on Facebook.  While I may keep my account open for a few more weeks, I have closed it to everyone, except for myself.  I can be found on MeWe, and will be posting notifications of my daily posts there from now on. It's no picnic......

 7:53 am - Wednesday - January 20th - Seal Rock, OR - 34° F, 93% humidity, wind - zero mph out of the north......mostly clear skies today with a forecast high of 51° F.....the rain returns tomorrow.  On this date in 2013 I found a couple of things at a yard sale in Cedar Key, FL without which I could not live.....I still have, and use that hand sledge on a regular basis 8 years later.......↴

Tuesday was the kind of day that makes you forget all the rainy weather we've had for weeks now.  It's been dry for a few days now, and our environment is also drying.  It was so nice Blake and I painted a couple more picnic tables during our two hour shift, and we may even paint a couple more tables Wednesday.

I was home around 12:15 pm with the golf cart so I could pack it full of cardboard which has been building up in the trailer over the past few weeks (Amazon/eBay orders) and haul it to the dumpster.  Once that task was complete I returned the cart to its shed, and walked back up the hill.  

Although I worked most of the time painting picnic tables in my short sleeves it was quite chilly with a breeze blowing out of the north, so I spent the afternoon inside reading and napping.  Around 3:30 pm I suggested to TLE that we have a fire around 4 pm to which she readily agreed, so I headed outside to stack some firewood in the portable firepit, and pull out a couple of camp chairs.  By 4 pm the fire was up to operating temperature and I was joined by TLE for our sunset watch.......

....the sun is setting about 5:09 pm now, and I walked down the hill to capture a picture, or two just as it was hitting the western horizon once again......

Burn baby, burn.....

 7:54 am - Tuesday - January 19th - Seal Rock, OR - 36° F, 87% humidity, wind 0 mph out of the north......clear, cold, blue skies today with a forecast high of 53° F.  On this date in 2016 good friend Steven Dempsey took this picture near Quartzite, AZ which ultimately became the masthead for our blog.....↴

I reported to work around 9:50 am.....I love my walk to work when this is the view that greets me......

.....as I predicted in my blog yesterday we did light the burn pile Monday.  It took us a while to get it started, but once it was going it was hard to quench at the end of the day.  As we always do when we burn brush, etc. we got out the Massey Ferguson tractor so we could push more brush onto the pile......

.....here you see Terry (in the background) moving more brush onto the pile.  I got a chance to spend some time on the tractor, also.  This is the smallest loader I have operated, but it works the same as the mid sized Kubota I operated at Ramona Oaks, and the same as the full sized Case I operated at Tahoe Valley Campground.

Terry and I also installed the new arrow I created on our entrance sign so people will know they must turn left to enter......

....I'm thinking it's pretty obvious now that you go left, and not straight up the hill.....lol!

Monday was my longest work day since we arrived here at SRRVC.  In all I worked 5 hours, mostly just babysitting the fire to be sure it did not spread, or get out of control.  At 4 pm we still had a lot of brush to burn (about 1/2 of what we started with), but we had to douse the fire as no one wants to spend the night up there, right?  We'll be back another day to finish the job.

The sun is setting closer to 5 pm now, and I was alert enough to see what was happening and scampered down the hill to get a picture of the sunset, and the moonrise......

.....I forgot to mention above that around 1 pm I took an hour break to go home and grill a London Broil for our dinner Monday night.  I finished with that right at 2 pm, and was back up the hill to give Terry a break.  I also had to run back up there just after taking the sunset picture to make sure the fire was out.  It's a good thing I did, because it wasn't.  Even though we had doused it heavily with water, and left a sprinkler running it had started up again, so I had to spend another 30 minutes making sure it was out that time, and it was.  By the time I left there was just steam rising from the brush. I left the sprinkler running all night to be sure.

Turn, turn, turn.....

 7:46 am - Monday - January 18th - Seal Rock, OR - 37° F, 100% humidity, wind - 0 mph out of the north......mostly clear today with a forecast high of 52° F.  On this date in 2013 TLE and I were having lunch at Ken's  Cedar Keyside Diner (no longer exists) in downtown Cedar Key, FL......↴

Sunday we went back to work....me at 10 am, and TLE at 2 pm.  I helped Terry prepare the burn pile for burning on Monday, and then spent another hour creating a direction arrow to affix to our entry sign showing people arriving at SRRVC that they must turn left to enter the park.  We've had a few people turn onto Cross Street lately where our entrance is, but continue straight up the hill past our site. This happened again Saturday evening, so it is time to remove the confusion.  I was able to lay out a white arrow on a 1" x 8" x 36" piece of wood, and apply one coat of white paint.  It was too cold for the paint to dry quickly, so I will have to finish that on Monday when it is warmer.....I was home by 11:45 am after only an hour and forty-five minutes, but Monday may prove to be a much longer day as we will be trying the shrink the size of our burn pile.

The sun came out a couple of times in the afternoon, but for the most part it was cloudy, and quite cold.  A small breeze out of the north added to the chill in the air.  There was a lot of reading during the afternoon whilst TLE was at work.  And that, my friends, sums up our Sunday.

Trim.....

We finally got the promised sunshine Saturday.  It was so nice, in fact, that I opened all of the awnings....window and patio.....for the day to dry out the fabric which has been saturated the past weeks with a lot of rain.  Additionally, I cleaned the salt film off the front windows, and the rust off our air horns, as well as several spots of hardened tree sap.

To cap off the day of home projects I cut, painted and installed the final aluminum trim piece to cover the remaining gap at the bottom of our new Dometic Americana II.....

....I was out of the proper size black screws so I located 5 screws of the proper size and painted the heads black so they would blend in with the trim piece.  I had to cut out a 1.5" x 24.5" piece of aluminum, then paint it with several coats of black spray paint.  I think it came out quite well, and now the installation of our new fridge is complete.  We literally love this new refrigerator as it is considerably more efficient than the old one, plus the much larger freezer is a bonus.

Within a couple of hours the window awnings were all dry, so I re-stowed them, but I left the patio awning deployed.  When it is raining, but there is no wind, it is nice to step outside and not get immediately wet, so we will leave it out for the next 4-5 days.

We were supposed to see some sun Friday afternoon, but the morning fog just intensified.  Time for some vitamin 'D', right?  The weather guessers kind of missed the mark Friday. I drove into Waldport around 10:15 am to get my ears lowered at Waldport Family Cuts.  Jeff owns this one chair barber shop located next door to Hi-School Pharmacy, and this is the third time he has shaped my quaff since we arrived here in mid September.  I was home by 10:45 am.  And that was the highwater mark of our Friday.

I did receive the new tire covers I ordered recently for the trailer.  I haven't had wheel covers for her for a long time, and I cannot tell you why it took me so long to take care of that long neglected necessity.....

.....I spent most of the afternoon reading, except for the few minutes it took me to install the new tire covers.

The Jell-O Plan changes.......

 7:40 am - Friday - January 15th - Seal Rock, OR - 50° F, 100% humidity, wind - CALM.....heavy cloud cover, sprinkling now....clearing later today with a forecast high of 52° F.  On this date in 2016 we were in Quartzite, AZ for the annual RV 'White Tent' extravaganza.........↴

Thursday we had light winds out of the east which means lower humidity, and warmer weather.....that is what we got.  The clarity in the air was the best in weeks, and the temp climbed all the way to 56° F....by and far the nicest day we have had in a while.

I met Blake at the golf cart shack at 10 am, and we proceeded up to the tool shed to retrieve the long pole chain saw, and the hand held chainsaw. Our task for the day?  Remove another tree limb from a tree which borders site # 39.  The high winds we experienced a few days ago had broken the limb, but it was still hanging by a thread, so to speak.  In all it took us around 1.5 hours to accomplish that task, and completely filled the trailer with the debris.  We then we closed the two hour shift out by covering the burn pile with two tarps to keep it as dry as possible in anticipation of burning it sometime early next week.  I met TLE the office, and we walked home together a little after 12 pm.

We've had a slight change in plans.  We are under contract to work at Seal Rocks RV Cove until the end of March, at which time we had planned to put a couple thousand miles on the coach by heading down to Arizona to pick up TLE's new recliner, get our alternator rebuilt, install some new steer tires, and get the coach serviced after which we would return to SRRVC to work the summer months.  That is still the Jell-O plan, but the timeline has moved up a little.  Our departure date for heading south for a month is now February 12th.

It's funny, if you think about it.  I was just starting to get a little 'hitch itch', and began day dreaming about being on the road again, but realizing it would be just under two months until that was reality made me a little sad, but now we are due to do just that in less than 4 weeks......6 weeks early.  I'm already beginning to plan our travel route!

To cap off our delightful day we watched the last 7 episodes of season 3 of 'Flash', and we have 4 more seasons to go.  It began raining again around 10 pm, and it continued raining all night long.  As I write it has stopped raining, and we should see some blue sky in the next few hours.....YAY for us!
