5:48 am - Friday - February 2nd - Grand Canyon - 27º F, 64% humidity, wind - CALM......forecast for today is for sunny skies with a high of 60º F.....I can get used to this!
I was up Thursday morning by 6:30 am, and TLE shortly thereafter....I guess we went to bed to early! We loved the king size bed in our studio apartment, and even with one of the windows open (we haven't done that in a long time!) it was very quiet. The last two times we have gone away for the night I have been using my Samsung Note 5 phone combined with a ZAGG keyboard to type the blog instead of taking my laptop along on the trip......
......using the Bluetooth technology on my phone I can connect it to the keyboard and then set the phone on the little cradle.....it actually works quite well, and I am getting more adept at using the somewhat smaller keyboard......way better than trying to type the blog on my phone, and more convenient than having to unhook my laptop, pack it up and haul it with us.
We awoke with several chores remaining on our list, and we wanted to be on our way out of town by 1 pm at the latest. Since we were staying right across the street from COSTCO and TJ's we headed to TJ's first as COSTCO doesn't open until 10 am. We were in and out of TJ's in less than 15 minutes and in the COSTCO parking lot by 9:50 waiting for the store to open. By 10:15 am we were checking out of COSTCO and on our way to our 3rd, 4th and 5th tasks.....get ice for our ice chest to keep some of our purchases cold, get a haircut, and get the protective glass screen replaced on my phone. We stopped at a local mini mart to get a bag of ice, then headed over to Fantastic Sams (no local Supercuts in Prescot), which is right across the parking lot from the Verizon store, for my haircut.....we arrived at Fantastic Sams about 10:30. As we entered the salon we saw the UPS truck making its deliveries in the store complex, so I was hopeful they would have the protective glass screen when I was finished getting my ears lowered.
I was able to sit right down for a haircut, and within 15 minutes we were walking across the parking lot tot he Verizon store.....they had, indeed, received my screen! Within 10 minutes we were walking out the door......it was 10:55 am and we had accomplished everything on our list except for getting TLE's new glass screen. There is a Starbucks right next store to the Verizon store so we decided to buy a couple of frappuccinos for the road. By the time we got back in the VW it was 11:05.....two hours ahead of our target departure time.....perfect!
Instead of driving back up through the South Rim Village and then taking SR-64 across to Desert View we decided to go east on I-40 to Flagstaff so we could stop off at Savers Thrift store.....we haven't had a thrift store fix in a while and since we got away so early we thought "Why not?". We arrived in Flagstaff around 1:15 pm and were back on the road home a little after 2 pm. We both found a few things we could not live without....for me a beautiful peacoat made by Old Navy, a couple of belts, and some new pajama bottoms.....score!!
We arrived back in Desert View by 3:15 and then spent the next hour unloading all of our purchases.....a lot of food and staples.... and putting everything away......we are set for the duration of our stay!
It was so nice to spend a couple of days away from the Grand Canyon in warmer weather wearing t-shirts, shorts and sandals! We both feel re-energized and ready to finish out our contract here at Desert View in style!
Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteI never thought of using the wireless keyboard with my phone, I'm going to have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteIn & out of Costco in 15 minutes? Where is the fun in that? :-)
Happy Ground Hog day!
