The 4th.....

7:15 am - Tuesday - July 5th - Likely, CA - 57° F, 55% humidity, wind 3 mph out of the south.....cloudy again today with a forecast high of 79° F.  On this date in 2014 TLE and I were rafting on the Truckee River near Tahoe City with daughters Kate and Sharon, and their then boy friends (Nick and Rod), now husbands......↴

Monday was, as you know, the 4th of July, the 246th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the founding of our great country......

.......and with the park completely full, and most of those folks being golfers we had a lot of golf carts staged......

Just behind Club Car #20 (center 0f pix) is the Cart Return station

.....when I arrived for duty at 7 am none of this existed.  There were 8 golf carts left over from Sunday evening which needed to be washed then staged.  It took me until just after 8 am to get all that done as I had to gas up all of the Yamaha and Club Car gassers.  The 'gassers' can go almost 9 rounds of 18 holes of golf on one tank of gas, but I don't like them to get below half full. I top all of them (the gassers, of course) off at least once during my four day work week, and so does Walt.  We do not want to have to take gas out to one of our customers somewhere on the golf course....that would be embarrassing, right?  In case you're wondering, the Club Car electrics can only go 36 holes before they must be plugged in once again.

I only really had two responsibilities Monday......wash the 8 carts left over from Sunday, stage those carts along with the others, pick up and clean a 'billion' golf balls from the driving range, wash the balls, put them away, then wash and put away all those golf carts we rented.  I really didn't leave the Clubhouse/Driving Range area all day long except for my 30 minute lunch break.

In all I retrieved seven 5 gallon buckets of balls from the driving range.....that's 35 gallons of golf balls, essentially.  The Yamaha golf cart which we use to push the ball retrieving machine around the golf course was 'broken' for a week, or so, but Bob, the miracle man, not only got it running again, but it now runs better than it has since we arrived back in April.  Of the seven buckets of balls I hand picked two of them with the 'Shag Bag' from the edges of the range, and in the trees which line the range.

When my quitting time of 3:30 pm rolled around all the balls were cleaned, and back in the 55 gallon trash can in the Clubhouse ready to be rented out by the basket once again, and all but 3 carts were washed and stowed in the cart shed.  It was a very good day.

I really like getting off at 3:30 pm, and am very happy Dennis offered that as an option to working during the heat of the day.  Of course, Monday was actually a cool day at 72° F, and I wore my hoodie sweat shirt until after 9 am, but it never really got hot.

TLE was home a little after 5 pm, and within minutes we were both ensconced on the 'lido deck' for an hour or so of adult beverages, and a couple of cigars before I lit the Sea-B-Que in preparation for grilling a salmon steak for dinner.  TLE provided sides of salad, and steamed white rice....the salmon was 'wild caught', and delicious!

And with that we are into our 'weekend'....for me it will only be three days this time as I agreed to take one of Walt's days this week as one of his kids is coming to visit, so I'll be working 5 days this week before returning to my regularly scheduled 4 day work week.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Clark, thinking maybe you should have Bob give you a crash course on fixing Golf Carts, may come in handy some day when you are working at another Golf/RV Resort (which something tells me you will seek out again...)

And how about this July weather?!?!? Lived in Sacramento for 35 years, have been back for the past ten summers, and NEVER have I seen (or remember seeing) it so mild. Something tells me that late July is going to be another story.

    1. Hi Dave! Great to hear from you! We are loving the July weather so far, but it will start to heat up in the next 10 days here. I remember visiting friends in Vacaville back in the mid 70's in July when the temp was 113° F, so I am familiar with Central Valley weather in the summer.....lol! Miracle Bob is passing some of his secrets on to me, and I am soaking it up!
