I guess it was foreseeable that my blog post yesterday.......'It's too big'.....generated the most comments any of my posts ever have. I guess I should replay my father's advice in my head more often......."Don't talk about sex, politics or finances in public.....you will lose friends".....well, I'm not sure if I have lost any friends......maybe some on Facebook, I have no idea. But my actual friends who know me, know my character and values, and how I treat others are still my friends as far as I can tell. Nevertheless, I shall refrain from further political comments..........until the next time.......:-)
TLE had a hair appointment in Claremont at Forte Salon where Amanda (one of the honorary 'Hockwalds').......Claremont is also where the Pacific Electric Trail I wrote about a few days ago begins. I have ridden every inch of this trail over the years, but never from one end to the other in one single day, so this seemed the perfect opportunity to do so.
Around 10:45 am I put my Cannondale Bad Boy on the bike rack and we made the 30 minute drive to Claremont Village in Claremont where I parted ways with TLE and began my 21 mile ride home. Beginning a ride at 11:30 am as the heat of the day is approaching (got to 89 F degrees Thursday) is probably not the brightest thing I have done, but in spite of the warmth there was still a coolness in the air as I passed the entrance to the PET on the east end of Claremont.......
Near the beginning of the Pacific Electric Trail (PET) in Claremont, CA
.......normally the prevailing winds along this trail are from the west, so I was hoping for a slight tail wind....not much fun riding into a headwind, right? However, on this day the wind was from the east, and although it was no more than 5, or 6 mph it was noticeable. It took me just about an hour to cover just over 11 miles......makes sense as my cyclocomputer showed an average speed of just over 11 mph......
Rancho Cucamonga near Rochester.....11 miles into my ride
.......by the time I passed under the I-15 overpass I had covered over 15 miles and I was getting hungry, so just after crossing Baseline in Fontana I found a Subway where I stopped for a footlong Club of which I consumed half before continuing on my way eastward......
Just into Fontana....you can see the I-15 overpass in the background.....15 miles down
.......of course, once I passed under I-15 I knew I was around 7 miles from the end of the PET and home.......Hello Rialto!
Almost home....
I reached the end of the PET at Cactus Ave. in Rialto having covered 21.39 miles......the end of the trail is about .75 miles past the Elks Club property, so by the time I arrived back at the Newell I had covered a total of 22.78 miles.......
The end of the trail.....21.39 miles from beginning to end
.......I was happy to ride into the shade of the patio awning and dismount......it was now close to 2 pm, and the heat of the day was upon us. We had left the AC running when we left for Claremont so I entered an already cool environment and was able to cool down quickly!
TLE arrived home about 40 minutes after I, and we inside until around 5 pm when it began to cool down outside.....I got the Sea-B-Que out and grilled some pollo asado, and TLE presented me with hard shell tacos for dinner......yum....life is soooo good!
Thanks for stopping by!
