A little late.....

7:56 am - Friday - October 17th - Elks Lodge - Fontana - 61° F, humidity 28%, wind 6 mph out of the north by northeast......crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 83° F.  On this date in 2018 TLE and I were overnighting at Cabela's in Lexington, KY....

....we would arrive in Campbellsville, KY the next day to begin our last Peak Season working for Amazon.

To those who look forward to reading my daily musings I apologize for not posting about Wednesday on Thursday.  We had an early breakfast date with two of my daughters (Kate and Sharon) as well as Sharon's husband, Rod, and their new baby, Caleb at 9 am. It's only an 18 mile drive one way from the Fontana/Rialto Elks Lodge, which we can do standing on our heads, normally.  We drive 20 miles to Alturas all the time in about 20 minutes, but in SoCal rush hour traffic that can take 50-60 minutes, so we were out the door around 8:10 am.  The traffic, as expected, was heavy, and it took about 55 minutes to drive the 18 miles, however, I get way ahead of myself.  What about Wednesday, right?

From Bishop to Fontana it is about a 6 hour drive, including rest stops, so we were exiting Tri County Fairgrounds around 8:30 am Wednesday morning to drive the final leg of our journey to SoCal.  It's about 60 miles south to Lone Pine, and the views were spectacular....

Love how straight US-395 is for miles and miles at a time!

.....we made our first rest stop at the Coso Junction Rest Area, about 35 miles south of Lone Pine,  just under a hundred miles into our day....still another 150 miles to go.

The rest of the trip south was uneventful, and around 2:30 pm we arrived at the Fontana/Rialto Elks Lodge where we removed the VW from the trailer, then backed into site #3, one of the larger sites (width wise) here.  When we leave in a few days we just drive straight down the driveway to Arrow Route, and head east....

.....most of the drive was just setting the cruise control at 60 mph, and hanging onto the steering wheel.  I don't think I've been more relaxed after a 250 mile drive in the Newell.

Thanks for stopping by!
