7:48 am - Saturday - October 18th - Fontana/Rialto Elks Lodge - 58° F, humidity 27%, wind 3 mph out of the north by northeast.....crystal clear, blue sunny skies today with a forecast high of 86° F. On this date in 2018 we arrived at Heartland RV Park.....
....for our final stint working Peak Season at Amazon. Heartland is a short 5 minute walk from the Amazon Fulfillment Center.
Friday TLE drove over to Sharon and Rod's home to babysit Caleb while mommy went to a hair appointment. I remained home to troubleshoot a continuing issue with the trailer lights, brake lights and turn signals working sporadically. You will recall I wrote about this issue when we were in Gardnerville, NV at the Elks Lodge. At the time TLE and I thought we had fixed the issue, but when we arrived at Bishop, CA it had reared it's head again. After fiddling with them again in Bishop we continued south, but I was pretty sure the left turn signal/brake light had quit working again, so at the Rest Area at Coso Junction I sprayed some more of the electrical contact cleaner into the female side of the pin connector, and they began working again. When we were backing the Newell and trailer into our site at the Elks Lodge Wednesday afternoon TLE commented that the left brake light was not working....doh! What is going on?
Fast forward to Friday. While TLE babysat Caleb I got busy trying to diagnose the current issue with the left turn signal/brake light and discovered that the relay in the rear electrical panel had quit working.....
.....after diagnosing the demise of the left turn relay switch I removed it, and will head over to Napa, or Autozone on Saturday to by a new one. This relay was 45 years old, and it is no longer made in this configuration. The new ones are solid state, and much smaller. I had to replace the right turn signal/brake relay back in 2012, and was able to replace it successfully, so I know what I need to replace this one. I'm hoping this will solve our issues with the trailer lights. The new ones look like this....
....TLE returned around 1 pm after a stop at the local Stater Brothers Supermarket. I spent a couple of hours reading after I had diagnosed the turn signal relay issue, and then at 3 pm we turned on the TV to watch game four of the NLCS (National League Championship Series) between the Dodgers and Brewers. The Dodgers have not swept a playoff series since 1963 when they swept the NY Yankees in the World Series that year. Shohei Ohtani was designated the starting pitcher for this game. The Dodgers have had some good hitting pitchers in the past, but nothing like Ohtani who hit 55 homeruns this year. What happened Friday afternoon is the thing of legends. Not only did Ohtani strike out 10 Brewers in 6+ innings, but held them scoreless. On the batting side he hit a lead off homerun to begin the game, and then hit two additional homeruns, one completely out of Dodger Stadium, and into the parking lot.....469 feet in length...a feat only 5, or 6 players have done since the stadium was opened back in the 60's. All three homeruns were over 400 feet. It was the single greatest performance by a baseball player in the history of Major League Baseball.....I saw it, and I still cannot believe what I saw. I have seen some amazing things over the years at Dodger Stadium, including Kirk Gibson's walk off home run to win the first game of the World Series against the Oakland A's, and Sandy Koufax's perfect game no hitter. Ohtani is in a whole other league. In the end the Dodgers completed the 4 game sweep of the Mariners with a final score of 5-1.
Thanks for stopping by!
