The last leg....

7:29 am - Thursday - October 30th - TWW  - 47° F, humidity 12%, wind 5 mph out of the east by southeast.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 76° F.  On this date in 2015 TLE and I were in John Day, OR....

....staying at the fairgrounds, and having dinner at 1188 Brewing Company...a short walk from the fairgrounds.

At last, our final day of travel back to The Wilson Wilderness arrived.  We were out of bed by 6:30 am, and on the road by 8 am as per our Jello plan.  Originally, that same Jello plan included driving straight to the property, and then heading into town in the next day, or so to pickup our mail, which included our last pay checks from LPG&RVR, but we made a game time decision to head directly to the Post Office in Seligman, retrieve our mail, then drive to the property removing the need to drive back to Seligman for at least a week, or so.

In the past we would have headed east to I-17, then north to Prescott, and up to I-40, but that is a longer route mileage wise (about the same driving time) taking us through Prescott Valley and Prescott and all the attendant traffic and stop lights.  This time we headed directly north on Arizona 60 from Wittmann up to Wickenburg where we picked up US-93 northbound through Wickiup to I-40 where we went east about 50 miles to Seligman.  This is a much shorter route mileage wise (about the same time wise) than the other one, and travels through extremely rural areas, with little traffic.  Overall, with our diversion to Seligman first, we covered just under 200 miles in 5 hours, arriving at The Wilson Wilderness a little after 1 pm, and without incident I might add.  Since we left LPG&RVR on October 8th we have traveled over 1,100 miles.  It was a great 3 weeks of travel in spite of the numerous delays we experienced (wind in Gardnerville, wind and rain in Bishop, and an extra day at the dentist), but we are ready to be in one place for 6 months again.

The final 6  miles to the property on the dirt/gravel road is always the toughest part of arriving, and leaving.  Due to the generally washboardy conditions of the dirt/gravel road we can only drive at 8-9 mph for the entire 6.5 miles.  At those speeds it takes 35-40 minutes just to drive that part, and we arrive with the Newell and trailer covered in a thick layer of dust.

Charles and Phyllis were there to great us, and then the work began.  I had to drop the trailer on the entrance road, and then pull the Newell forward to the gravel site we built last year.  Everything was as we left it, and it was just a matter of turning on the Eco Worthy solar array tracking system, then plugging into our Bluetti battery bank.  It was as if we had never left.  Next Charles, using his truck, backed the trailer into its spot, and the setup began.....

....by the time we had moved the Predator 5000 to its winter spot, connected to the Bluetti battery pack, and deployed the patio awning it was after 3 pm, and time for a shower before dinner at 4 pm.

For dinner Phyllis prepared wonderful Chili complete with corn bread muffins.  Everything was delicious! We spent time talking about our winter plans, and just appreciating that we are back for another 6 months.  Around 6 pm TLE and I headed back to the Newell where I took a much deserved nap, and then read for a couple of hours before heading off to dreamland.  I had forgotten how utterly quiet it is here....even quieter than LPG&RVR!

Thanks for stopping by!
