July has come and gone faster than a wink of the eye, and I think I heard myself utter these unthinkable words yesterday......"in two weeks we have to start packing up our stuff" in anticipation of our departure on September 2nd. Well, it really won't take two weeks......I hope! Nevertheless, there is a lot of stuff to put away, and we will have to make some "hard" decisions about what to re-donate to local thrift stores before we head north. July 31st was also another milestone in our nomadic life.....30 months on the road, and 42 months living full time in our Newell. I have reached the tipping point in this experience where I still intellectually understand that just 42 months ago we lived in a stix and brix house, but the reality of that time seems so distant now, and it has begun to feel as if we have always lived this way. This is our third summer living where it does not get to triple digits in the summer, and it is difficult imagining we will ever do so again. Our experience here in SLT* still continues to be everything we hoped it would be.
Thursday was another day spent with 50% chance of rain hovering over SLT*, but we determined that we would get out and do some more riding before the forecast rains came......as it turned out they did not come, which has been pretty typical this summer.
We decided.....well, actually TLE decided....that we would ride the tandem to do an "out and back" ride using HWY 89/50 to Pioneer Trail, and then turn around on Pioneer Trail at Tahoe Blvd. to reverse our path. It really is a pretty ride, and by doing this route out and back we could log over 24 miles. This is the first time since before we left Rancho Jurupa that TLE has put in that much "seat" time on any bike. We left around 10:45 and were back in town at the Subway just after 12 Noon splitting a footlong club sandwich, while we cooled down from our ride. When we started our ride the air still had that "coolish" feeling to it, but by the time we finished the humidity had risen in anticipation of the forecast rain making it feel much warmer than it was.......however, all we got Thursday was the humidity, and no rain.
Right after my shower I sat down to read, but found myself waking up an hour later from another of those wonderful afternoon naps I have been taking lately. I then proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon in one of the outdoor lounge chair reading a good book, just enjoying and appreciating the cool breeze that was wafting through our patio area.
Around 6 TLE prepared a delightful taco salad for dinner, and then around 7 we set out on a walk around the campground. We unexpectedly ran into Billy who was doing the same, and continued our walk with him around 3 of the 4 sections talking about cabbages and kings, and just enjoying the night air.
So, that is what 4th Saturday looked and felt like......I am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that in just over 4 weeks now we will be heading out again on another adventure!
Thanks for stopping by!
