In all we walked a tad over 2 miles.....how many places can one of modest means afford to live where you can take a morning walk on the beach before reporting to work? Every time we hike down the road to "south beach" I get a smile that would be difficult to slap off my face, and it stays there pretty much all day.
We arrived at the lighthouse just at 12:30 to relieve Paul and Nina, to find that, at last, the visitor traffic is beginning to slow down. Over the course of the afternoon shift we saw just 24 visitors......just enough to help the time pass relatively quickly. Of course, when we don't have 20 people downstairs waiting to come up to the lantern room we can spend more time with those who do come talking about the lighthouse, lens, etc., and that is what we did.
At one point TLE came up to the lantern room to joint me for a few minutes, which is rare for her.....
Our last tour finished about 10 after 3 pm, and there were no cars in the parking lot, or on their way from the gate, so we began the process of closing the lighthouse for the night......we were at the gate closing it by 3:20, and home before 3:30.....I know, another tough day at the office, huh?
I spent time watching the end of the NFL game between the Broncos and Cardinals in which Peyton Manning just shredded the Cardinal secondary winning the game 41-20....it wasn't really even that close. In the game Peyton became only the second NFL quarterback in history to surpass 500 touchdowns.....he now stands at 503 career touchdowns....very impressive.
While I watched the game I opened up one of the 22 ounce craft beers I bought at the Langlois Market.....a Samuel Smith Organic Chololate Stout......if you love beer and chocolate you must......I repeat, you must try this one.....OMG!
Around 5:20 we walked next door to Paul and Nina's site for happy hour.......a friend of theirs who is an excellent musician was coming over to play his guitar and sing a few songs. We spent about an hour listening to really good music, and on occasion (well at least I was) we sang along to familiar songs from our youth.
We headed back to our coach just before 6:30 to finish our dinner prep......we had a couple filets that needed grilling before they aged out, baked potatoes in the oven, and fresh asparagus to cook. We bought these filets at Ray's Food Place in Bandon, and they were some of the best I had had the privilege of grilling.
Another day lived well.....thanks for stopping by!
Marcia loves, I mean LOVES, Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Found a place in Roseville, north of Sacramento, who sold it after her recommending it to them in 2013 when we were visiting and looking for it. They seemed to have about eight or more of their beers, don't remember seeing this one though. --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)
ReplyDeleteI had never seen this one before either until the other day, and I love it! I have been drinking the Oatmeal Stout for years, and like it a lot, too.
