Taxing day.......
When the Tax man last visited this past April 15th I was missing a couple of wage statements so I filed for 6 month extensions for my Federal, California, Indiana and Kentucky returns......yep, I had 4 tax returns to file for 2013. Well, October 15th is coming in just over a week, and it was time to get serious and get 'em done.
Thankfully, Tuesday arrived replete with fog and drizzle......the perfect day to be stuck inside doing one of my least favorite things in the world.....taxes. Filing 4 tax returns is the "sharp" side of a two edged sword when you workamp........even though it has been almost two years since we worked at Amazon in Kentucky we received our bonus check for completing our contract in January of 2013, so I had to file a return in that good state for a second time for the same 11 week job. Ironically Kentucky's tax forms are quite convoluted and difficult to complete, but even more difficult were Indiana's tax forms. I had to complete no less than 8 separate forms to get my $79 refund.
However, before all the tax fun could commence I needed to dump the black tank.....nothing like doing one of my other "favorite" jobs when it's drizzling outside.....:-) While I tackled that project TLE drove into Bandon to buy a few things, including some fresh Coho Salmon.....as it turns out our neighbor, Paul, was going to smoke some meat in his smoker Tuesday and we wanted to contribute some fresh Salmon to smoke. The Coho only costs $7.99/pound at Ray's Food Place, and it is melt in your mouth delicious.
By the time TLE returned from her excursion it was after 12......I had been at the taxes for some 2+ hours, and wasn't close to being done with the Federal return......all the state returns require numbers from the Federal return to be completed. Around 1:30 I pronounced the Federal return "done" and then proceeded to compete California, Indiana and Kentucky. As the clock hands approached 5 pm I turned off my computer, breathed a sigh of relief and watched the end of the Dodger game with St. Louis, which also turned out to be the end of the Dodger's 2014 season as they lost another heart breaking game 3-2.....a game in which their star pitcher carried a 1 hit shutout into the 7th inning. Alas, it was not to be.......in the span of just 3 batters the score went from 2-0 to 2-3, and that is how the game, and season ended.
Around 6 we moseyed over to Paul and Nina's coach for dinner, which ended up being our smoked salmon with a couple of very scrumptious sides......the rest of the meat was not done cooking. The smoked Coho Salmon came out perfectly and was a perfect paring for the fresh green beans, and tomato, avocado, onion and cilantro salad prepared by Nina. We spent a couple of hours listening to each other's stories of "how we met our significant others" before retiring back to our coach a little after 8 pm for the evening.
While I watched the end of the Giants vs. Nationals game (which the Giants won 3-2) TLE dove into a project, the scope and magnitude of which I am not at liberty to disclose at this time.........but by Friday morning the whole "sordid, ugly truth" will be in the blog......stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by!
