We are surrounded.......

8:52 am - Friday - September 10th - Seal Rock, OR - 55° F, 100% humidity, wind 5 mph out of the north.....heavy overcast today with a forecast high of 60° F.  On this date in 2012 we were overnighting at the local Walmart Supercenter in Rock Springs, WY....picture taken from the Starbucks across the street.....the rain had just starte falling......↴

We were expecting a gravel delivery at 8 am Thursday morning, but as has always been the case since we arrived here, they arrived several hours after.....11:40 am.  Nevertheless, when it was obvious by 10 am that the gravel would not arrive for a while Terry told me to report for work at 11 am, and hope the gravel arrived soon thereafter, which it  did....just in the nick of time.

After retrieving the Massey-Ferguson loader/backhoe from the barn on the hill I began hauling what gravel was left in our sorely depleted pile to site 22 to begin leveling it.  This is another of the three pull through sites I mentioned in my last post.  We only put short trailers in this site as the front to back level area is quite small.  The entrance to the site is on a downhill slope, and the exit is even steeper.  The level portion in the middle is about 30' long. Below is a 'before' shot of the site prior to dropping my first bucket load of gravel.....

The loader bucket is full of gravel, and poised to begin the day's operations

......I managed to haul three bucket loads of gravel to the site when the gravel truck finally arrived, which was a good thing, because there was only one, or two more buckets of gravel left in the depleted pile.  Once the flatter area was level I spread a thin layer of gravel to cover the approach and exit......

.....site 22 now looks much more inviting, and is now level from side to side....it was about 5" low on the right side, so it took a lot of gravel to get that bubble in between the lines on the 3' level I use (I sit the level on a 10' 2 x 4).

I was home around 2 pm, and relaxing shortly thereafter.  I love Thursdays, because I know I will have two days off from my grueling job....lol.

There was a fog hanging just off the coast all day, and it did not appear we would have a sunset, but Miss Serendipity threw us a curveball, an we got a very memorable one.....

Soon I'll be taking these lights down....the white ones have been there since September of 2020.

.....we stood outside for about 10 minutes marveling at the beauty with which we are surrounded on a daily basis.

  1. The gravel pile was almost empty and the gravel truck arrived to fill it up again.

I wonder where did that gravel go?
