8:52 am - Sunday - September 5th - Seal Rock, OR - 57° F, 100% humidity, wind - CALM.....foggy, and cloudy today with a forecast high of 66° F. On this date in 2014 we were beginning our first Fall stint as lighthouse hosts at Cape Blanco, OR....the oldest operating lighthouse in Oregon.......

TLE has wanted to pick black berries for some time now, so Saturday morning I agreed to accompany here on her picking expedition. Picking black berries is a messy process, and you get pricked many times by the thorns which envelop the fruit on all sides. We worked our way up NW Cross Street on the north side picking black berries, then around the SRRVC leech field (where the burn pile is), finishing at the corner of Seal Rock, and NW Cross Streets.....
TLE gingerly reaching around, and through the
thorns to harvest the black berries
....the two of us managed to harvest about 2 quarts of black berries before we headed back down NW Cross Street to site A-2......
....while TLE began cleaning the fruit in preparation for making some black berry jelly, I got to work on a project of my own....cutting a piece of flat aluminum to use to stabilize the data port on the side with the broken tab I wrote about yesterday.....
....it was actually easier to to than I expected. The next task on the 'to do' list was to install a cigarette lighter plug in the bedroom to power the 12 volt fans we use to clear condensation from the rear window. Up until now we have used a 120 vac to 12 volt adapter to power the fans, but we want to be able to use them when boondocking, so the need for the 12 volt plug. This job turned out to be much more difficult than I anticipated, but in the end I was victorious. The easy part was using a hole saw to cut a hole for the 12 volt plug....the hard part was getting it wired up to a reliable power and ground source .......
.....we now have an alternative power source for the fans. While I was otherwise occupied TLE worked on a project of her own. I wanted a slip cover for the back of my recliner. We discussed how to do it for a while, and then she went to work executing the 'plan' on her sewing machine.....
....she is a whiz with a sewing machine, and it came out just like we envisioned it.
We haven't had a sunset fire for a long time now due first to wind every night, and then the burn ban. We have a portable LPG firepit, which we haven't used since we were at RORVR* in 2019. I pulled it out when it became obvious we would have a windless sunset....
......we were outside by 6:45 pm (sun sets at 7:45 pm now) to witness the sunset, and what a sunset it was. Over the course of 90 minutes it continued to unfold, and just kept going......
....the final two pictures were taken around 8:20 pm.....just a perfect evening to smoke a cigar, drink a couple of fingers of Scotch, listen to a little 'Frank', and watch the sun set with your best friend in the world.
Thanks for stopping by!
