Getting a handle on things.....

8:25 am - Saturday - September 4th - Seal Rock, OR - 52° F, 94% humidity, wind - CALM.....clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 65° F.  On this date in 2010 we were riding our bicycles near Ventura, CA just south of Rincon Parkway......↴

Friday morning after posting my latest missive I headed outside to cross another 'to do' item off my list.  Months ago I bought a new set of aluminum door pulls for the Beetle.  The originals were plastic, and very poorly designed, meaning they will eventually break, which mine have done.  I replaced the driver side door pull in November of 2020 (I wrote about that here)....

The original, plastic door pull (driver side)...

....the new, after market, aluminum door pull....much better!

....for whatever reason, I never installed the passenger side door pull.  I decided Friday to finally install that one before the plastic one breaks and grenades the door card.  The seller (eBay seller) provides a YouTube video to assist you in making the conversion.....

....it is very thorough, and makes the task incredibly easy.  Instead of using the piano wire recommended in the video I used my Dremmel tool with a saw blade attachment to cut out the old handle....

.....in all it took me 20 minutes to remove the old door pull, and install the new one.....

....the final Beetle task on my 'to do' list before we depart was to reattach the data port which the technician broke when we were getting her smogged a month ago.  I was able to reglue one of the tabs to at least hold it in place.  I'll have to cut a new mounting bracket out of aluminum stock for the left side and install that Saturday.....

You can see where the left tab is broken....see red circle

.....once those tasks had ben completed we headed into Waldport to do some shopping, and have lunch at Lazy Days Cafe.....not necessarily in that order.....

.....alfresco dining at its finest.  I had their Brisket Sandwich, and TLE their Rueben....both were 4 star offerings.....

The Brisket Sandwich....

.... and the Rueben....=.

....we were home between 2 and 3 pm, and spent the rest of the afternoon watching round 2 of the PGA Tour Championship (FedEx Cup).  It remained sunny all afternoon with a little fog here and there, but sunny for the most part.
