Rock on......

7:23 am - Sunday - December 19th - Anza Borrego Desert, CA - 29° F, 34% humidity, wind - CALM.....crystal clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 67° F.....a 38° F differential!  On this date in 2018 we had escaped the gravitational pull of Amazon, and were in Nashville, TN having some brews at Tennessee Brew Works, and visiting the American Pickers store nearby.......↴

.....the view this morning.....when TLE opened her curtains around 6:30 am this morning we were treated to a view of the full moon setting over the western mountains.....amazing.....

For perspective (above), and now a little closer (below)

It's been 22 months since we last visited the world famous Anza Borrego Desert rock snake sculpture.  We hiked to the 'snake' several times over the four weeks we were here, and on one of the last hikes we discovered someone had vandalized a couple of the numerous rock sculptures (I wrote about that here), of which there are many.  Originally, it was just the snake sculpture, but over the years many artists have created additional rock sculptures.  We wondered if any additional vandalism had occurred since our last visit, so we made the 3 mile round trip hike to the sculptures Saturday leaving the Newell around 11:00 am.  In about 35 minutes we had our answer.....

.....everything was just as we had left it 22 months ago......

The ocotillo

The gecko

The elephant

The bald eagle

Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera....

A new one.....the rabbit

"I love your art!" ....also new...

.....in this ever changing world it is nice to see that some things have remained the same.  In all we covered almost 3.1 miles.......

......averaged 2.5 mph, burned 555 caloric units, and gained 322' in elevation.  In all we were gone about 90 minutes.  It's been a while since we took a hike, and we were both feeling it when we returned home.  We both spent the afternoon resting and reading, but around 4 pm TLE decided it was time to break out the 'Cowboy Wok' for some 'stir fry'.....she makes the best stir fry!  I managed to snap a  couple photos of the beginning and the end of the process and a short video of what happened in between.....

.....all the while the sun was setting over the western mountains.....

.....and the FULL moon was rising over the eastern mountains.....

.....I am amazed at the resolution of my Samsung Ultra S21 phone camera!  The stir fry was delicious, to which TLE added a Savignon Blanc wine chaser......perfect end to a perfect Anza Borrego day!

    1. Thank you for your comment! Elaine loves the wok, and now with so many windless evenings she will begin to use it more. She makes a mean breakfast using it, also.

  2. As I started to read your blog today I thought to myself I would ask about the rock snake and it you were close by. What a suprise , you went there , are you close to the metal scupltrues that are in that part of the country ? Elaine should think about doing her own wok food truck . That looked awesome .
