Happy 242nd America!

06:12 am - Thursday - July 5th - Southwest Harbor, ME - 67º F, 82% humidity, wind 1 mph out of the northwest - clear, blue skies with a forecast high of 79º F.  Very humid last night and this morning.

We knew it was going to be a 'scorcher' Wednesday the 4th of July.  I was very grateful I was not working......TLE, on the other hand, had switched work days with Sam so she could have last Sunday off, and agreed to work the 4th of July for him.  She had the 2 pm to 10 pm shift....the hottest portion of the day.  We had the A/C on by 10 am, and it remained in the 'ON' position the rest of the day and into the night.

We haven't eaten breakfast out since we arrived in Southwest Harbor back on May 12th so we decided to check out a local place called Eat-A-Pita Cafe No. 2 in downtown Southwest Harbor.  Because it was the 4th of July some local restaurants were closed narrowing our options, and I am not a big 'Pita' fan, but we decided based on their Yelp breakfast reviews to give them a try, and we are glad we did......

........they have alfresco dining, and their breakfast reviews ranged from 4-5 stars.  As we have traveled around the USA over the past 6+ years I have tried a lot of Huevos Rancheros dishes.  On their menu they had an Eggs Rancheros, which I assumed was the Maine version of this popular Mexican dish, and I was correct.......

'Eggs Rancheros' Maine style

......to say I was pleasantly surprised at how good this dish was would be an understatement.....it was delicious, and ranks right up there with the top 4, or 5 Huevos Rancheros I have had over the years.  TLE ordered their Corned Beef Hash with two eggs over easy, and had the same reaction I had......

.....I took a couple of bites of her dish and would have to agree with her assessment.  Just about the time we finished breakfast the sun began to creep into our eating space and it was time to move along.....the sun here is quite intense on warm days and I endeavor to avoid being in direct sunlight on those days.

We were home a little after 12 pm and enjoying the A/C......TLE had just under two hours before she would head off to her 8 hour shift in the office which has no insulation, and only a small, portable A/C which feels great if you are standing right in front of it.  I, on the other hand, remained at home reading a book interspersed with several naps.  I did walk down to the office about 8:40 pm to see how TLE was doing, and was immediately happy I had spent the day inside out of the heat.......the temp topped out at 91º F which is about 6º higher than forecast.

I was in bed by 10 pm with the windows wide open.....the humidity had dropped into the 60 percentile making the night air feel quite comfortable, however, I would get up around 2 am to turn on the front A/C as the inside temp had risen to 88º F by that time......ugggghhhh!  There is not much I dislike much more than A/C running while I am sleeping.

For the first time in a few years I did not view the local 4th of July fireworks show.....without TLE it just would not have been the same, so I stayed home and listened to them......nonetheless, Happy 242nd Birthday America!
