8:10 am - Sunday - December 3rd - GNHS - 47° F, humidity 80%, wind 5 mph out of the south.....clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 67° F. On this date in 2020 TLE and I were working at Seal Rocks RV Cove in Seal Rock, OR....this was burn pile day......↴
Setting fire to the burn pile
Now she's going
We still had no advance bookings for Saturday when I opened the office at 9 am hoping for walkup business. Since there was nothing else to do I was the only one on duty. If we should get walkup business TLE and Hunter were ready to respond. To keep myself busy I took another 12" off the RZR flag staffs. You will recall I took the first 12" off about 2 weeks ago hoping that would be enough to keep them from breaking, but since then two more have broken, so I took another 12" off, still hoping that will do the trick. Additionally, I still had two more RZRs to clean, but they were not too dusty, so I just wiped them down with a micro fiber towel, and called it good. By the time I finished it was 11 am, and with no prospect of walk up business I closed the office for the day.
Sine I needed a couple of things from the hardware store TLE and I hopped in the Beetle to drive down to Calipatria to the TruValue Hardware store (Zendejas Hardware) just after 11 am. It is about 25 miles one way, and takes just under 25 minutes to make the drive. I needed to get the Master key to our fuel station Master lock duplicated, as we only have one of them, and we really should have a backup key, or two. I also needed one more 1" x 3.5" x 8' board to frame in the A/C unit on the back of the office, so I picked that up too, along with a tube of white caulk to finish the job on the window frame.
On the way back to GNHS we stopped in Niland at the local grocery store (YeeYaw) to check out their inventory, and buy a few things. Since last year this store, which was pretty new then, has really improved their inventory, and their prices are not too bad either. We were home around 12:20 pm with the rest of the day still in front of us. Of course, the rest of the daylight portion of the day only had 4 hours left in it with the sun setting at 4:34 pm now.
TLE continued to add decorations to our Christmas tree, and I think it is looking pretty good now....
.....I took some time to apply the white caulk to the gaps in between the pieces of the wooden frame on the window to give it that finished look.....
....and that was the end of my activity for the day. I spent the rest of the day, and into the evening watching several college football conference championship games....
....Texas beat the pants off Oklahoma State 49-21, while Michigan dismantled Iowa 26-0. The biggest game of the year pitted #1 Georgia against #8 Alabama for the SEC championship. It was a close game with Alabama squeaking out a win to upset Georgia 27-24.....Georgia came into the game with a 29 game winning streak. That's why I love college football....anything is possible! The final game of the day had the 12-0 Florida Seminoles playing the 10-2 Louisville Cardinals. It was a thoroughly uninspiring game which featured just one touchdown, and numerous field goals, won by Florida State 13-6.
Around 4 pm we headed outside to the 'viewing deck' to watch the Chocolate Mountains light up, and the sun set......
....after which I lit the Sea-B-Que to grill a filet mignon TLE had purchased at the Walmart in Brawley Wednesday. We enjoyed a bottle, or two of Chateauneuf du Pape, 2021....
.....and a wonderfully tender, medium rare filet mignon with baked potato and broccoli salad.....
....following that sumptuous meal TLE broke out the Yahtzee dice. We played six games, splitting them with 3 wins each....this time I won the tie breaker with about 12 more total points than TLE. And with that another GNHS day was in the books.
Thanks for stopping by!
