Upset! Upset!

7:13 am - Saturday - December 10th - GNHS - 41° F, 60% humidity, wind 5 mph out of the south by southeast....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 67° F.  On this date in 2019 TLE set up our small Christmas tree on the center console, just above our portable fireplace.....↴

We had no UTV bookings for Friday, but we hoped we would get a 'walkup', or two.  While I was still composing my latest missive I spied TLE moving one of the RZR's......

.....we officially opened the office at 9 am while the quarter final game between Croatia and the Brazil was nearing its end, so we sat on the 'lido deck' watching it on the outdoor TV.  With 10 minutes to go in regulation Brazil lead Croatia 1-0, but then Croatia scored a late goal with a couple of minutes to go in regulation to send the match into 'extra time', which is two 15 minute  'extra time' (overtime) periods played in full.  No one scored in the two 15 minute 'extra time' periods, so it went to 'kicks from the mark', aka: penalty kicks to determine the winner.  Croatia was the under dog in this match, but their goalkeeper managed to stop the first two kicks from the mark by Brazil, and Croatia went on to win 4-2 in 'kicks from the mark'.....an upset for the ages.....Brazil was the #1 seed going into the World Cup, and favored to win it all.  I guess that is why they play the games, right?

At 11 am the match between Argentina (underdog) and the Netherlands began.  With 10 minutes to go in regulation Argentina led the Netherlands 2-0 who appeared 'dead in the water', and then a miracle happened.  The Netherlands scored one goal with 4 minutes to go, then another in 'added time' (injury and stoppage time) to send yet another match into 'extra time'.  With the score still tied 2-2 at the end of 'extra time' this game also went to 'kicks from the mark'.  Once again the goalkeeper for the underdog (Argentina) blocked the first two Netherlands kicks, and ended up winning 'kicks from the mark' 4-3 on their 5th and final kick.  Wow, two upsets in the quarter finals.

By the time the second game was finished it was almost 2 pm....we had closed the office at 1 pm.  We were both rung out from two of the most amazing World Cup matches we have ever watched, and they were both on the same day.  Typically a soccer match takes two hours to play....90 minutes of soccer action, and 30 minutes for half time commentary.  These two matches consumed 6+ hours of our day.

That was pretty much our day.  We do have one booking so far for Saturday, but none for Sunday.  There are a bunch of bookings beginning on the 16th, and they continue past New Years day, so the next few weeks will find us pretty busy.

Thanks for stopping by!
