Rural Coastal Oregon.....

7:21 am Friday - August 13th - Seal Rock, OR - 54° F, 100% humidity, wind 3 mph out of the south by southeast.....heavy marine layer today with a forecast high of 64° F.  On this date in 2012 TLE and I were at a vista point near Cannon Beach, OR.......↴

Thursday was kind of a laid back day work wise.  I spent some time trimming bushes, and things with stickers along the beach path, then some time scraping old paint off another picnic table, finishing my day doing site checks.  I only worked 2.5 hours Thursday as every single site was occupied meaning I could not do any trimming within those sites.  It's nice to have a short day at the end of your work week.  About the hardest things we do here at SRRVC are trimming hedges, and string trimming.....since all the sites are occupied through Labor Day there isn't much non-site trimming left to do.  The grass has pretty much stopped growing, and the only place left I would need to mow maybe one more time are sites A-1 to A-3, which I will do one more time next week.  The rest of the work is pretty easy, and when you only work 2-3 hours per day it is pretty much a cake walk.  If you want a summer, or winter job where you work just enough to pay for your site, this is the place to come.

I spent a good part of Thursday afternoon working on TLE's eBike....she hasn't ridden it for a long time, and it needed a good cleaning.  In addition to wiping the entire frame down I cleaned her 5 speed cassette along with the chain, then lubed the chain.  I checked the air pressure in both her tires brought them back up to 55 PSI.  I finished off the session by topping off her bike battery, as well as the bike battery for my electric Haibike.  All that remains to be done on the bike front is to clean the Haibike, as well as clean the 10 speed cassette.  I've ordered a new 10 speed chain for the Haibike which should be here in a few days.  I noticed the last time I rode her that the chain was jumping, or skipping over the teeth of the 10 speed cassette in certain gears, which indicates either the links have stretched, or the cassette is beginning to 'cup'.....when a cassette 'cups' it means the valleys between the teeth have gotten larger with wear meaning the chain will not seat properly and skip.  I'm hoping it's the chain as a new 10 speed cassette is very expense, while the chain costs less than $40.....we'll see.

TLE and I continue to be asymptomatic to the Wuhan flu.  There was one more death in Lincoln County attributed to COVID bringing the pandemic total to 23 since February of 2020.  Oregon is now requiring its citizens to wear masks when inside retail establishments again, regardless of the stats in your particular county.  Once again all of Oregon is being treated like Portland, Salem, Albany, Corvallis, Eugene, and Medford, or the I-5 cities as I call them.  Most of Oregon's population lives along the I-5 corridor, and with a denser population you get more cases of the Wuhan flu.....out here in very rural Coastal Oregon not so much.  Thank you to all of you who responded to my query from a few days ago....

  1. Wearing a mask does not take away YOUR freedom. It protects OTHERS. Not wearing a mask is a selfish act especially after attending an indoor event and flying on a plane where you could easily have been infected. I have read your blog for a long time and always found you to be kind. I can’t figure out your lack of understanding of a pandemic that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Please get vaccinated. Follow the science. Thank you.
