10:17 am - Thursday - August 22nd - LPG&RVR - 71° F, humidity 18%, wind 16 mph out of the south.....partially cloudy today with a forecast high of 79° F. On this date in 2012 TLE and I were riding our Cannondale Tandem bicycle along the Columbia River on the Washington side of the river.....Oregon is in the background....
There are some days when one decides not to follow one's normal routines, and Wednesday was one of those days for me. Usually, on days off after we walk, I will have my coffee on the 'lido deck', and eventually make my way inside to write my latest missive about events of the previous day, but I just did not feel like it. TLE and I got involved in other projects, and I never got around to doing the deed. I thought about it several times, but just didn't want to break away from what I was doing. So, now I find myself at the keyboard of my Microsoft Surface laptop writing about the events of Tuesday and Wednesday, and hoping I do not conflate the events of one day with the other.
Tuesday was August 20th, which is a number I am having difficulty accepting. How have we put 3 weeks of August into the rearview mirror already? As I sit here on August 22nd it is even more difficult to believe we have less than one week to go before we celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. In just over two weeks TLE will be celebrating the 26th anniversary of her 49th birthday....lol! I mean, come on, how can it be that time seems to be accelerating? I'm pretty sure there are still 24 hours in the day, 7 days in each week, and that it still takes 365 days to make one revolution around the sun, and yet it seems like just a few weeks ago we arrived for our 3rd summer here at LPG&RVR. Well, enough mental gymnastics for one morning.
Tuesday, a day about which I have not yet written, I had three appointments in Alturas.....my monthly haircut at Kaleidescope (8:45 am ), my weekly PT appointment at Modoc Medical Center (9:15 am), and then my annual eye exam at Modoc Family Optometry with Dr. Deering (2 pm). We were on the road into Alturas around 8:20 am, arriving at Kaleidescope at precisely 8:40 am where I was seated immediately for my haircut, and out the door before 9 am. Whilst I was getting my haircut TLE drove over to Rite Aid to pickup a prescription, so I walked over to Rite Aid. We always seem to forget the Pharmacy does not open at Rite Aid until 9 am, so I found TLE in line waiting the screen to be lifted.
We drove back south on Main Street to Modoc Medical Center where I spent the next 45 minutes in my PT session with Michelle, who will be my permanent therapist for my remaining weeks here. My range of motion for my right knee increased another 4° in just one week, so the work I'm doing at home is paying dividends.
We were back in the VW a little after 10 am, and on our way over to Canby (20 miles west of Alturas) to visit Coffee Adventure. This cool little coffee shop just opened this summer, and is only open Tuesday through Friday each week. They have alfresco dining, great coffee, homemade sandwiches, and pastries, and it is operated by a very nice Mennonite family....
.....additionally, they sell home made bread. We had a lot of time to kill before my 2 pm eye appointment, so we hung out there sipping coffee, and for me, eating an 'everything' bagel, for over an hour. I think this is at least the 3rd time we've stopped there for coffee.
Back in Alturas we needed to do a big shopping, so we headed to Dollar General first, then Grocery Outlet, and finally Holiday Market....we bought a lot of stuff! By the time we finished shopping it was around 1:30 pm, so we headed over to the optometrist to see if I could get in early.....no such luck. As is often the case, by the time you get to the afternoon in any doctors office they are behind, and that held true Tuesday. I wasn't called into the back room until close to 2:30 pm. The great news to report is that my eye health is outstanding. The only thing that really needs attention is the lens in my left eye, which was installed 8 years ago. It is a little cloudy, which does happen over time, but to fix it is just a quick laser treatment to 'polish' it to restore clarity. Dr. Deering sent a referral for me to Klamath Eye Center, so at some point in the next few weeks that procedure will be performed....otherwise I'm good to go!
We didn't get home until almost 4 pm....that was a long day, but a lot was accomplished. By 6 pm we had eaten dinner, and retired to the 'lido deck' to await the daily sunset, which is now occurring around 7:48 pm.....
.....to keep the mosquitoes at bay we light a lavender incense stick, a citronella candle, and coil. Those three things do the trick, and our 'lido deck' becomes mosquito free. We were back inside for the night a little after 8 pm.
Thanks for stopping by!
