Old adages, and serendipity.......

4:10 pm - Tuesday - August 13th - LPG&RVR - 81° F, humidity 18%, cloud cover 15%, wind 15 mph out of the west.......we have reached the forecast high for the day of 81° F as I write.  On this date in 2012 TLE were south of Canon Beach in Oregon....what a view!....

My second PT appointment was Monday at 8:15 am necessitating an early get out of bed time, so we could be on the road into Alturas by 7:30 am.  We arrived in Alturas around 7:50 am, so we decided to stop off at the Casino to top of the VW tank with premium.  We arrived at Modoc Medical Center PT around 8 am, just as they were opening, so we sat in the car for a few minutes to give them a chance to get setup for the day.  By 8:15 am I was doing my PT with Ryan, the other half of the traveling PT duo. His girl friend, Rachelle, took care of me last week.  In all I worked with Ryan around 45 minutes, and was that ever a workout....my quads still feel like jelly 38 hours later....lol!

Our next stop was the dreaded DMV where we had failed on two previous occasions to complete our drivers license renewals.  As we are driving over to the DMV I say outload "Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm for us" to TLE, and she agrees.  I know this is an extremely old adage, that predates my earthly existence, but do you ever feel compelled to prove, or disprove 'old adages'?  When ever a situation which seems to resemble the circumstances proscribed by an old adage presents itself I often refer to that adage silently, and wonder if it will be proved, or disproved.  Well, in my lifetime I have found myself often living this old adage, and it happened to be the 3rd time that things finally accrued to my benefit....maybe 90% of the time.

Our next stop was Holiday Market.  We've been shopping weekly at Holiday Market for three summers now, and I do not believe I have ever raised my eyes above the display cases one single time until this Monday.....

.....never in all those times we have shopped at Holiday Market have I looked up while in the Produce section to see, even notice this mural.....it is of downtown Alturas....the 2nd building moving from right to left is the Elks Lodge, which is still standing on Main Street.....very cool.

After our shopping at Holiday Market we proceeded over to Rite Aid where I picked up the next 90 day installment of my blood pressure medication, then it was onto Ace Hardware where we bought 4 more mouse traps.  Since we turned off our ropes lights for that one single night a month, or so ago we have trapped 8 mice, so we wanted to beef up our outer perimeter defenses with more mouse traps, as well as steel wool to wrap around the three areas we have identified where mice might ingress into our coach from the basement areas.  We now have 10 mouse traps deployed, with two of those being in the salon, one under the stove in the kitchen, and the other seven in the basement areas.  We usually catch most mice in the basement traps, but this time around most of the 8 we have trapped have been under the stove, and in the salon.  We haven't had a mouse problem since late 2019 when we were living at Ramona Oaks RV Resort in Ramona, CA.  We have found out that we are not the only ones here at LPG&RVR experiencing a rodent invasion.

Once we were done at Ace Hardware we decided to do something we have not done in months....JUNK!  We did not find anything on this day without which we could not live, but as I was browsing in the second thrift store I stopped suddenly in my tracks in front of some old, gaudy stereo speakers, which were identical to speakers my father had back in the 70's....I mean these are exact carbon copies of those speakers, and here I find a pair way in the back of this thrift store......my mind was suddenly flooded with wonderful memories of listening to Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra records with my father through those speakers.....don't you just love serendipity?....

.....after my father's death at age 54 in 1978 I inherited the stereo/speakers, and had them in my 3 car garage in Ontario, CA for over 25 years, so believe me when I say these are EXACTLY the same as those speakers from my father's stereo.

We were home before noon time, and had the car unloaded a few minutes later.  We had planned to spend a few hours on the 'lido deck' in the afternoon, early evening but the west winds freshened to 20 mph, or greater, so we chose to remain inside for the evening.

Thanks for stopping by!
