9:19 am - Real Saturday - June 5th - Seal Rock, OR - 52° F, 100% humidity, wind - zero mph out of the north......heavy cloud cover today, and it rained overnight.....the forecast high for today is 56° F. On this date in 2015 we were having lunch at a local Mexican place in South Lake Tahoe......↴
We haven't been to our favorite, local breakfast place, The Coffee House, for a long time, and we were hoping for sunny weather Friday morning so we could dine alfresco there. The stars were with us this day and that is exactly what we got, so around 9:30 am we drove north to Newport to the Historic Bay District. Fridays are much better than Saturdays for driving around the Historic Bay District, and this Friday (5th Saturday) was no exception. We easily found a parking spot just up the street from the Coffee House, and were sitting at an outdoor table minutes later putting in our orders for two of their very large Americano Coffees......
.....like the coffee, the entrees are also large......
For moi.....Bacon, cheese, and onion 3 egg omelette.....
....and for TLE a breakfast sandwich....
......we enjoyed a quite leisurely breakfast, and our view of Yaquina Bay......
....after breakfast we headed first to the local Verizon store to find out if TLE could get a new battery in her iPhone. As I suspected they could not do it, but there was a place in Corvallis that could for between $100 & $200. So, what to do? Well, how about a new iPhone to replace the 5 year old one with a tired battery? I did not realize TLE's iPhone was 5 years old. As it turned out, with a her iPhone 8+ as a trade in, it ended up only increasing our monthly bill by $8 to upgrade to the iPhone 12....much more memory, and a fresh battery. While Josh (the manager) started transferring over her data from the old to the new we headed over to 101 Dry Cleaners to drop off my suit, shirt and tie, where no masks were required, and then off to Fred Meyers where the sign on the door says masks are still required, but with no enforcement now. For the first time since we arrived in Seal Rock we shopped sans masks. I counted only 2 additional brave souls without masks. I'm sure that number will increase as time passes.
When we returned to the Verizon store to pick up her new phone it was not ready yet, so we decided to drive over to the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, and take a few pictures of it, as well as the Yaquina Bay Bridge, which is really quite beautiful.....
Looking southwest...
Yaquina Bay Lighthouse....shuttered, with no admittance
The iron work on the bridge has this wonderful green patina.....looking southeast...
....we knocked about for about 45 minutes before returning to the Verizon store, and were able to leave with TLE's new phone, ready to use. By the time we made it home it was almost 2 pm....where did the day go?
Later we took another loop walk up NW Cross Street to Seal Rock Street, and them back through the park. I actually walked the entire 12% grade NW Cross Street twice, and covered just under 1 mile for the entire walk.....TLE was only up to walking once up the hill this time. Along our walk I saw this cool wood sculpture......
Looking west down Seal Rock Street to the ocean
.....we were pleasantly surprised to be treated to a spectacular Coastal Oregon sunset just before 9 pm......
.....it was a busy 5th Saturday, and much was accomplished....thanks for stopping by!
