I cannot help but continue to contrast this 4th of July weekend with others spent at other locations. Things are so low key here you would not even realize it is a long holiday weekend. No matter where we have been in past summers it has always been crazy busy, especially South Lake Tahoe, which is just off the charts this time of year. No complaints here, however.
We began the day with a customer attempting to dispose of coals from his charcoal grill in the brush above his RV site....wait, what? Within minutes you could see smoke rising from the brush. Fortunately, Rich had been passing by his site at just that moment, and quickly put out the smoldering mess before it became something serious. This is just no accounting for the stupidity of some people! We provide numerous covered metal trash cans throughout the park for just this purpose....in fact there was one within 75' of the offending customer.
More chainsaw sculptures
We have a system of fire roads running through our property here at RORVR, and many of them were heavily damaged by this winter's heavier than normal rainfall. Rich has been spending time each week since we arrived repairing them. He asked me to take my golf cart out and let him know how he is doing in making them passable once again......
.....I had ridden with him a couple of time over the past 6 weeks, and there were places where the road was still totally impassable, but on Saturday I found much improvement with only a couple of tricky places left.
As you know from past posts we have 5 park models, or cabins for rent here at RORVR. There is a 6th cabin owned by one of the park owners (Larry) which is pretty nice, and has a great view of the fishing pond. He (Larry) wants to list it on AIRBNB, so Rich has been sprucing it up over the last few weeks. He still has a long punch list of small things needing to be done, and he asked me to help him work on them Saturday afternoon. I will never turn down an opportunity to work inside, out of direct sunlight. The two tasks on which I worked were to mount the flat screen TV in a new location, and to properly attach the over the air antenna (outside) to the building. Whoever installed it just used zip ties, and as one might imagine it was a little wobbly. Those projects took me right up to 4 pm.
We had set the DVR to record the 3rd place FIFA Women's World Cup match between Sweden and England, so I set up the outdoor TV to watch the match outdoors. It was played at 8 am Pacific Time, so I had studiously avoided seeing, or hearing the score all day. We both thought England would be the victor, however, Sweden scored two early goals, hanging on to win 2-1 as regulation time expired.
By the time the match was finished our picnic table area was in the shade, so we moved the table over and rolled out the 'new' to us artificial turf I had retrieved from site #40 the day before....it fits right into our motif, and now we can walk to our picnic table without putting on shoes!
Saturday was also the beginning of the 2019 version of Le Tour de France, and I had also set the DVR to record all 5.5 hours of the 100+ mile Stage 1. I turned it on as I began to cook our filet mignons for dinner. The evening temperature was just perfect, and we lingered outside until after 7 pm eating, and watching Stage 1 of the Tour unfold. There are 21 stages to be run, as well as a few rest days so the Tour will be on until the end of July....what a summer!
