Red sails in the sunset......

6:41 am - Wednesday - July 3rd - Ramona, CA - 57° F, 93% humidity, wind - CALM....clear blue skies today with a forecast high of 82° F.....the view this morning.......↴

It got up to 86° F Tuesday, but it felt warmer.  We have been talking for a month, or more about erecting some sort of a shade for our Beetle while it is parked.  There is really no shade around our site except first thing in the morning in the back of the site where the oak trees line the the creek.  We don't drive the Beetle often.....maybe once a week when we go into town on Tuesdays, so it sits baking in the sun everyday, and when we get in it to go into Ramona it takes forever to cool it down with the A/C.  I've had the necessary tools (orange paracord, guy line adjusters, stakes, sails, etc.)  to set up shade for about two weeks now, but was still trying to figure out how to configure it.

We've had these two brand new red 'sail' awnings for 3, or 4 years now, but have never used them.  We figured to attach one end of each sail triangle to the Newell, and then utilize 3, or 4 of our adjustable poles to secure them.....it ended up being four.  It took us about 90 minutes to figure it all out, and set it up properly so it actually provided shade at the right time of day.....

.....we were trying to use what we already had, and I think it turned out pretty well, but we may have to make a couple of adjustments.  Of course, the acid test is does it provide good shade, and keep the car cooler.  The answer is "Yes it does".  We drove into town around 3 pm, and the A/C had cooled the interior before we got out of the park.

The main attraction, however, Tuesday was the FIFA Women's World Cup match between England and the USA.  The game really had me nervous as England has played better with each successive match, and seemed to be peaking at just the right time.  Before the match even began there was added concern....Megan Rapinoe had been scratched from the lineup.  As you may, or may not recall, she had scored the last 4 goals for the USA in their last two matches.  The USA scored just 8 minutes into the match to lead 1 to nil, but England countered about 10 minutes later to tie the match.  Fortunately Alex Morgan scored on a header in the 31st minute, and that ended up being the winning goal.  There was a lot of excitement in the second half.  England seemed to score the tying goal, but it was called back due to an 'offside' call.  Then our goalkeeper had to make a couple of amazing saves to preserve the lead.  Finally, England was awarded a penalty kick in the 84th minute of play, but the USA goalkeeper stopped the shot to again preserve our 2-1 lead.  England suffered a red card a minute, or two later and had to play short the last 4 minutes of regulation time, plus 7 minutes of added time.  In the end the USA showed a lot of grit and determination in advancing to the final match of the World Cup.  They await the winner of Wednesday's match between Sweden and the Netherlands.  The final will be played on Sunday.

Around 3 pm, after the soccer match was complete, and our heart rates had returned to normal we drove into Ramona for Taco Tuesday at Rubio's once again.  After our late lunch/early dinner TLE went into Staters to do some shopping and I headed over to the local Verizon store to have a new tempered glass screen protector I bought from Amazon installed.  Normally I would get one from Verizon, but my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is about 4 generations removed from the current version, and the screen protectors are difficult to find in the stores.  At any rate I bought a packet of two from Amazon for $9 shipped and had one installed while TLE shopped.  I returned to Staters in time to help her finish shopping.  We were home about 4:30 pm.

We had to run the A/C from noon until almost 7 pm before it began to cool once again.  We spent the evening reading, and were in bed by 10 pm.
