The 4th......

6:35 am - Friday - July 5th - Ramona, CA - 54° F, 97% humidity, wind - CALM.....sunny this morning with a forecast high of 82° F.  Before we begin with Thursday's happenings here is a picture of the bollards I painted that stand sentinel around the propane dispensary.......↴

That is certainly a bright yellow!

The days here at RORVR seem to pass so quickly.  It seems I barely get settled into the work day and it is 4 pm.  Has it almost been 10 weeks since we landed here?  The work is easy and varied, and it suits me perfectly.

We were expecting 25 arrivals on Thursday, and by 5 pm all but one had arrived.  We are not as crowded as we were over Memorial Day weekend, and that is fine by us.  I do not have fond memories of the 4th of July weekend at Tahoe Valley Campground where we might have in excess of 200 arrivals the day before the 4th of July, and another 100 on the 4th.  The 4th of July weekend would last about 6-7 days, and for that entire time it would be totally crazy, and verging on out of control from hour to hour. Tensions would get quite high, and long hours were worked.  Here at RORVR it feels just like any other weekend.

I ran my normal opening routine, and once I was finished with the pool retrieved the Stihl hand blower, and headed up to the mini golf area to blow those eucalyptus leaves off each hole.  I did a little cleanup around the horseshoe pits, and then headed back to the tool shed to pick up the big Stihl backpack blower to clean the Red Barn parking lot.  I hadn't blown the dust and dirt off that lot in about a month and it was way over due.

Once the parking lot was clean again I proceeded to clean down Maple hanging a left at Pine Street for about 100 yards, before continuing down Maple to Oak Street.  That took me up to lunch time.  After lunch I blew the dirt and gravel off of the rest of Pine Street, then proceed to clean the entire length of Ash Street, finishing at the #2 restroom. By that time it was close to 3 pm, and since the wind was gaining in velocity causing the dust I was creating to be carried up the length of Oak Street and into the tent area I quit.

Over the next hour I received a few calls on my 2-way radio from TLE about various customers needing assistance. One customer needed some branches trimmed from the oak tree he was parked under as they were hitting the top of his trailer.  This required the retrieval of a ladder and pruning hooks from the tool shed.  Another customer complained that he had plugged into his pedestal and was getting no power.  Of course he would not get any power.....he had not turned on the breaker switch.....silly goose!  I spent some time at the entrance directing traffic consisting of arriving customers, and existing customers trying to ingress, and egress.

Suddenly it was 4 pm and another day working at RORVR was in the books.  I bid TLE adieu and headed home to take a cool shower, and relax for an hour before returning to the office to give her a ride home.

There was a fireworks show in Ramona at the middle school (Olive Pierce Middle School, to be precise), but we could not drive into town to see it as we had to close the park at the time the show was being held.  Oh well, next year, right?  Anyway, here are a couple of pictures from the Ramona Rotary Facebook page....
