Working on my birthday.....

7:31 am - Friday - October 4th - Ramona, CA - 42° F, 85% humidity, wind - CALM....clear, blue, cold skies this morning with a forecast high of 82° F....can it get any better?  The view this morning.......

When I left off yesterday I had not had time to finish setting the posts on the section just above the drainage area, so that is where I returned Thursday morning after doing the pool tests.  I had to shorten a couple of split rails to get everything to fit, but in the end it all looks great......

 Another 8 sections finished!

......next up I moved down Oak Street to the pond section to begin working on all the split rail fencing in that area.  While I was setting up I noticed our resident blue heron feeding in the shallow end of the pond.......

....then I noticed a flock of ducks across the pond.....

....okay, enough nature, time to get to work.  There has been this section of fencing next to cabin #24 that has bugged me for a long time, so that is where I began working just before lunchtime.  Originally there were two posts right where this small lateral fence met the main fence.....one post to terminate the section of lateral fence, and then another where the main fence crossed that area.  Why they used two fence posts I do not know, but I was determined to join this lateral fence with the main fence in a more seamless manner, so I first dismantled the lateral fence, and then created a new corner post to eliminate the one unnecessary post.......

.....in addition, I added one more section to the original two sections of lateral fence before putting it all back together again.....I think it turned out pretty well......

There was a second post right in front of this new corner post....now one post joins both fences

....next up I shortened two split rails by 6" to join together the fence that ends just before the rear of the cabin with the section that begins on the other side of the rear of the cabin......

.....you will recall that the split rails in this section used to be screwed into the cabin decking.  I added the two posts a week, or so ago, and then finally connected everything on Thursday......now it looks complete.

I finished with the section behind the cabin a little after 3 pm, and spent the next 40 minutes cleaning up all of the discarded fence posts and split rails from the last couple of days, and hauling them up to the large roll away dumpster in the storage area.  By the time I had unloaded all of the waste in the roll away it was 3:45 pm and time to put my tools back in the tool shed and ferry TLE home.  After a week of fence repair, and digging many, many post holes my body is beginning to feel every day of its 70 years, but it is a good 'tired' feeling.  Nothing like working with your hands and being able to see the results day by day....nothing like it!

All through the day I continued to receive, via social media and my blog, 'Happy Birthday' greetings.  It's always nice to know your friends are thinking of you.....thank you to all of you who took time to send me a birthday greeting.  They are all much appreciated!
