8:45 am - Mountain Time - Thursday - 48 F degrees, humidity 24%, wind 7 mph out of the north northeast......clear blue skies......good morning from the Newell RV Resort in Wittmann, AZ!
We were up Wednesday by 8 am in anticipation of our departure from the Quechan Casino parking lot to head another 197 miles east to Wittmann, AZ. Once again the skies were slightly overcast continuing a pattern we saw every day we were there. One would think that since we were dry camping in a parking lot we did not have much to do besides put the VW back in the trailer and go, but there were also those solar panels I tilted Sunday morning to garner electrons from the sun, which had to be stowed once again for travel, and that takes me about 20 minutes as I am very focused on NOT falling off the roof!
Nonetheless, we were finally ready to roll about 10:15 am.....a little behind my target departure time of 10 am......and looking forward to changing our view once again. We had to drive about 5 miles east on the frontage road due to the road construction on I-8, which also caused us to detour when we arrived on Saturday. We initially had a side wind from the north hitting the drivers side, and I had visions of fighting this wind for 197 miles, but thankfully the wind abated about 10 miles east of Yuma, and for the rest of the trip it felt like we had a tail wind.
We stopped at a Rest Area about 15 miles west of Gila Bend to take a restroom break for about 15 minutes, then continued east leaving I-8 for SR-85 which would take us 25 miles north to I-10. In the past the first 10 miles of SR-85 out of Gila Bend were terrible, however, sometime in the last year they FINALLY repaved this bad section.....cool!
We had predetermined that we would stop in Buckeye, AZ to refill our diesel tank at the local Fry's fuel station. We had about 70 gallons of diesel left from our last fuel stop at Silver City RV in Minden, NV about five weeks ago. We took on 110 gallons at $2.22/gallon......since we have covered 841 miles over that time it means we averaged 7.64 miles per gallon.....one of our best averages ever.
We arrived at the property of our good friends Tom and Darlene about 3:45 pm, and spent the rest of our daylight getting setup......
......just in time to see this beautiful Wittmann sunset!
Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Thanksgiving!
