Child to friend.......

6:39 am - Friday - January 31st - Riverside, CA - 44° F, 58% humidity, wind 5 mph out of the west by southwest......clear, blue, cool skies with a forecast high today of 75° F.

Thursday was the complete opposite of Wednesday......a slight breeze, but no 'hurricane' force winds, so our plans for Wednesday were implemented Thursday.....we hiked Mt. Rubidoux.  This time we parked on the south side of the mountain in the local sports park parking lot.  The overall hike is a little shorter.....only 3.29 miles in total length......but the trail is steeper, so you get the same workout......

......the air was startling in its clarity.....low humidity will do that......

....the CCC (California Conservation Corp) has been doing a lot of trail work, and landscaping along the many trails to the top.  In the picture above you can see the series of steps they have built on one of the dirt paths.......

At the top....the famous Cross in the background

A picture of Rancho Jurupa Regional Park where we spent 12 months as volunteer camp hosts (2011-2012)

Big solar farm along the Santa Ana River

......in all we covered 3.29 miles in 57 minutes averaging 3.5 mph, and gaining 487' in elevation.....

....after completing our hike we returned to the Newell where TLE gathered together our laundry and headed out to a local laundromat, and them stopped by Trader Joe's to pick up a few things before returning home a couple of hours later.  I spent part of the afternoon preparing the tongue on our American trailer to be repainted.  It's been a few years since I did this, and the paint is looking poor.  I have three spray cans of leftover gloss back paint which I will use to refresh the tongue paint.

We were treated to another beautiful sunset, after which we jumped in the VW to head into town to meet Kate and Nick at the new Salted Pig located now in the walking mall near the Mission Inn.....a great new location which will now offer outdoor dining as well as indoor dining.......

.....one of the reasons we love the Salted Pig is their craft beer, however, since they have moved to a new location they had to get their liquor license changed, and the new one has not come through yet, so no brews this night.....:-(.....the old location had just indoor dining, and the noise levels at times made it difficult to carry on a conversation.  The new location has much better acoustics, and we really like the new ambiance......

The new digs

Nick and Kate

......nonetheless, we had a great meal sans beer....I had their 30/30 Burger, which is made from ground ribeye.....amazing!  TLE had their MSG Burger which is ground slab bacon....OMG.  We had a wonderful time talking about 'cabbages and kings' as we always do.  We love all our children, as we should, but what is so cool is that they are all really interesting people, have all become good friends, and I love our wide ranging conversations.....Thursday evening was wonderful!  Sometimes it is difficult to transition from a parent/child relationship to a peer/friend relationship, but Thursday evening was just more evidence to me that we have successfully made that transition.  Thank you Kate and Nick for a great evening!
